Line up the timing marks. Not hard at all.

I also heard you can put something in cylinder one and when it reaches it's highest point that is the timing mark?? Is this correct info??

If I'm being stupid then tell me but once I take the crank pulley off and I know it has been rotated a couple times if I put the pulley back on and line up the marks won't it be messed up??? Someone correct me if I'm wrong??? Thanks

Stick a dowel into cyl 1 through sparkplgu hole, at the highest point you're at TDC

I believe the crank pulley goes on one way and one way only and it shouldn't matter cuz you cant put it on the wrong way. But I could be wrong, I know that cams gears only go on one way with a pin.

Your right about that it can only go on one way but I want to make sure if I bring it to TDC that all I have to do is install the crank pulley and I'm all set.Can anyone verify this??? Thanks

Thats all retarded.......The CORRECT way to find TDC is with the cam gears. Rotate the crank counter clockwise until the arrows on the cam gears point up and also there is a little notch on each gear that'll be linned up on the inside pointing to eachother almost like they're kissing. Then you're at true TDC. None of this dowel guessing bullshit.

Ohhhh expletive....I assumed you had a DOHC....I'm sorry. I'll post how to find it on a SOHC if thats what you have....

I dunno what made me think that.

Cam gear has a marker for TDC. Pulley has a maker for TDC. Easily done.

This would all be great if my cam timing wasn't messed up to.I rebuilt the whole motor so everything is funked up.Cam timing I'm not worried about what I want to know is if I bring the motor to TDC can I just install the crank pulley and not worry about anything being unbalanced or out of time?????

isnt there an arrow on the crank gear?.... my DOHC had one. you just rmeove crank and turn till it points to a line... and yoru at TDC. i dont remember its been a long while since ive taken a SOHC appart. last time i just threw a LONNGGG *** 1/4inch scoket extension and turned hte crank till highest point and installed.... (i didnt give a **** about hte motor so eh).

buuttt just put hte crank on... move the crank into position... and just leave the tension belt loose... once its in position... install belt tigthen tension and then remove crank pulleyr to reinstall the belt cover.

the only problem with that idea of a dowel or long screwdriver is that the piston spends a bit of time at TDC as the rod swings from front to back to prepare for the way down, TDC is the center of the rods travel there as well, the piston head comes to TDC but the rod arm still has not swung to the perfect TDC spot. dwell time of the piston needs to be taken into consideration. the crank pulley has a keyway so it cant go on wrong, just put it back on and line up the timing marks.

OMG...this is the **** that pisses me off to no end...When people take short cuts, screw **** all up, then come here and ask how to fix it. If you took your time and did this **** right the first time you'd be done by now. but nope....You slacked off dnd cut corners on your rebuild and now you're paying for it.

This is the reason why so many stupid ******' kids blow their motors....I'm sorry to preach bro and I dont mean to be an *******, but you have to slow down to speed up sometimes.

what are you stupid?

the ways to find TDC without timing belt are:

1. TDC mark on timing cover and crank pulley
2. put a screwdriver in #1 cyl till its at top.

putting something in cyl 1 is not ghetto. it works fine, so stfu

constructive to say? get a helms manual and read it, they are all over the internet. i try to be helpful, but god damn. if your rebuilding an engine, you should have an idea of how to put a timing belt on. sorry if that rubbed you the wrong way. i hop this is your car your working on. good luck.
