Default 06 ex::no second gear??

couple of days ago, he was just crusing, everyday driving, and he went to put it into second gear... grinded like hell, and he tried to put it back in, (babying it) and same thing, so he just went to third.after this, he tried to take off from second verrry slowley, and just grinded and no second... stayed like this for a a couple days, and today, he happened to try his second, to see how it would react, and it went in problem solved... yet now, his second gear is verry hard, and its hard to take it out of gear... anyone have any ideas? i say shift linkage... ??

the same exact thing happened to me. the reason its doing that is because second gear is chewed up and all the 2nd gear internals are probably out of whack. i took mine to honda wen this happened less than 2 months of owning the car. they claimed it was from abuse. they brought in a specialist to cover their *** and prove it wasnt manufacturer default. they also said it would not be covered at all next time it happened. i thought it was bs but at least they fixed it under warranty.

Happened in my EP3, luckily I was working for honda then as I am now. Mine was shift forks though, It would get stuck in 2nd and grind like hell until I got it out.

Recently We have seen a couple in with problems in 2nd or 3rd, (seems skipping gears is taking a toll on these trannys), I have always made sure to hit every gear (sequentially, as designed). I guess a lot of people dont and it is tearing the hell outta the synchros!

i wasnt skipping gears in mine, i was definatly popping it into second sometimes tho. i guess the gears couldnt handle powershifting.

i guess what they did to fix mine was replace second gear itself. along with all the internals directly related to 2nd

I have a 2006 Civic Ex, and there are times when I need to get up to speed quickly through the first couple of gears, then once I'm up to highway speed, I might skip from 2nd to 4th, or 3rd to 5th, or whatever. I don't really do it that often, maybe once a week (and I drive ~80 miles a day).

Skipping gears like that will legitimately wear down the synchros? I'm not saying you're wrong, I just never heard of that before. If it is, then I'll use every gear sequentially like it was designed

I don't see why skipping gears would be a problem.

The way i see it is why even skip gears its not hard or much effort to go from 2cd to 3rd to 4th to 5th to 6th while getting and on the highway if its gonna mess up the tranny why do it at all ive never even thought about doing that.

I never heard that you cant skip gears news to me....I know some cars like the late model camaro z28s and ss's are set so you have to skip gears when just driving regularly...I know I know totally diff car but ayy..Ive been skipping gears in all 12 or so hondas Ive owned and never had a tranny go on me or a prob I figure if Im up to speed already might as well throw in 6th or 5th....but for the most part I go through them all

I dont see why skipping gears would cause a problem, the syncro does not care what gear you just came from all it cares about is the RPM's of the engine... That is why we dont have to double clutch our cars like the old muscle cars, we HAVE synchros...

Power shifting can cause problems.

okayy, so my friend took his ex to honda, and they checked it out, in less then 3 hours he got a call baq, and supposedly everything is fine... all they did was lubricate everything, and told him, if it happens again, to bring it baq...
