Default S.O.S. my car sucks.

a few months ago symptoms started out as surging idle, cleaned the FITV and IACV and surging seem to be gone but now idles at 1500-2000, replaced the FITV and problem seem to be cured but not entirely and now this happens...

black smoke coming out of exhaust, running very rich, idle very crappy and have to stay on gas to keep engine from dying. checked engine oil and was shocked to see it was black as mud after only less than 3k since last oil change.
when i pulled out the spark plugs, they were fouled-up, and there was smoke coming out of cylinder number 2??? replaced plugs with new ones just so i could drive to work. CEL would come on sometimes but haven't checked what code yet.

help?

Sounds like the map sensor. When the MAP sensor goes bad, it puts too much fuel in, causing the spark plugs to become blackend with 'soot', and even fouls them up if left for too long, which would explain things. It also causes black smoke, which means your running rich. This could also be a product of a Bad o2 sensor, which the ECU uses to measure Air\Fuel ratios in order to adjust input of fuel.

Id suggest buying a new IAC vavle unit, and either replacing the whole Throttle body, or getting a new MAP sensor (you might be able to find a used TB for cheaper than a new MAP sensor at the dealer), new 02 sens ( the top main one, if your speaking of OBD2) and reset the ECU, and see where that gets ya

thanks for the help.
i did convert to obd1 when i had my swap.
so i just replace the IACV and map sensor and not worry about the smoking cylinder?

You still need an O2 sens, its for air\fuel mixture reader for the ECU.

Id say to play it right, replace your one O2 sens, MAP sensor, throw some new plugs in, a new IACv unit, reset the ECU, and get back to us on that. All that should solve the problem.
