99 Civic SI, No ABS

I just bled all 4 wheels, and I have new pads, and rotors, and new calipers in the back. The system will not pump anymore air out at all. It seems to have none.

When the car is off, I can press the pedal a few times and it gets hard and does not want to go anywhere, maybe half an inch if that, but it gets hard then.

When I turn the car on, the pressure is non existant... and the peddle goes nearly to the floor before getting resistance.

No leaking from what I can tell anywhere...

Any ideas?

What other mod's have been done to the car? Ive had similiar symptons when i wasnt getting a good vaccum seal on the brake booster.

 

That is it... Rear calipers, pads, rotors, flush....

From what I can tell it is the master cylinder... since it is hard under my foot with no engine, but goes to the floor with the car on.

 

Yea, sounds like the M.Cylindar, look into replacing it.

 

replaced the master cylinder... bled it, bled the system, all air out... .... SAME THING... it was a remanufactured MC... but good god, first my caliper needed a replacement from factory, second times the charm... now the MC... Im ordering another, but if this happens again, what else could it be.... I am perplexed and my wallet is hurting from all this bleeding with nothing to show for it...

 

maybe a break in a line or a bad seal somewhere? may be a minor leak so its hard to find any residue of fluids.

 

if that were the case, .. Wouldn't it be a slow depression of the pedal? I mean, I put my foot to the floor... and we see no residue or dripping anywhere. I had eyes on each part when I pressed and I checked too when they pressed.

 

do the master cylinder there is a primary and 2ndary side in a master cylinder sounds like the primary went bad, if it was a brake booster, your pedal would be harder the a stiff di*k

 

thought so. Well I should be receiving a new one today... if not tomorrow... I hope it works, otherwise I am stumped.... Since no one has another opinion on it here, not even a BS one... I'm going to assume I was correct in that the new one was faulty.

 

Ok, so new one in, still softish pedal, and it can go to the floor... though it is a bit stiff the last 1/2 inch or so... The car is stopping during moderate pressure well enough, at some speed, but I Wont know highway fast stop until tomorrow nor Hard braking for a few more days.

I just dont think it should feel this soft... is 7/8 inch the correct MC diameter for a 99 civic SI?

Is the only solution for a stiffer pedal, a larger one?

(yeah I know if it works it works, but with autox, etc.... it is just too easy to go down for me.)

The only other thing it MIGHT be says a midas manager... is maybe the brake booster itself ... the materials like the diaphragm is wearing out. Possibly making the pedal travel further than the actual MC plunger is. Is this legitimate? Could it be true?
