Default Using old pistons for a turbo build

im going to rebuild my motor... new bearings, seals, eagle rods, honed block, and i am thinking that i can use my old pistons with new std sided rings, the machinist told me that FI motors require slightly more 'slop' or tolerance in the piston/bore sizing anyways. I allready have the rings, and i dont really want to spend the extra$400 for new oversized pistons and rings. QUESTION IS: is it common to re-use your old pistons with a honed block and new rings? or is it ludacris>?

the "slop" is for lowering your compression. if you use your same pistons i would suggest maybe a slightly bigger head gasket. i would honestly spend the extra $400 for the new pistons though. its not gonna be cheap when you do things the right way

no it's not. the "slop" is so the pistons have a little more room to expand under the pressure and heat of a boosted engine. usually for forged pistons.

if you have eagle rods, why not get forged pistons too? you'll have to modify oem pistons to fit on them anyway.

****, didnt know id have to screw with the pistons to fit the eagle's. right guess ill buy pistons too... damn money is hard to come by for this kind of ****. another question, how come ppl are telling me that i dont even need to build the bottem end to handel 7psi for a B16a2 with about 85,000 miles? i mean, shouldnt you allways replace factory weak crap with good internals before going turbo?

The lowers are usually just fine on a honda motor. Only the rods are questionable and sometimes the pistons depending on applications. Only thing you should worry about is maybe putting new crank bearings in. The stock honda crank can handle a lot.

And you really dont need to modify much to run 7psi on a B either. It's perfectly fine on a properly tuned stock motor. Don't really need to replace the rods until your over the 10psi point, with a B (I dont recall what sort of horsepower this equate to).

Sounds like you should spend more time researching and less time buying parts and listening to what Joe at the machine shop says.

stock b series can easily handle 300whp on with a good setup and tune, if the engine is healthy to begin with.

psi is irrelevant without knowing the size of the turbo.
