After doing a little looking around (after having roughly 7 crx) i realized that my 88 has a LOT of differences from my 90 and 91.....and BETTER differences. No seat belts in the doors (which i hate on my others) and slightly lighter, better suspension (there was just a post about this with the ITR trailing arms), no rear wiper (i hate those as well) etc....but the question is, i thought the 88-89 were pretty much the same and 90-91s as far as the seats/seatbelts and safety type stuff but i have seen/found a wierd mix of some 89 with seatbelts in doors and some without. My problem is how do i know what crx years to get replacement doors from?? are the 88s the only odd-*****?? thanks

thanks for the reply, very informative. i am not new here at all BTW!!! i have been on this forum for years and lost my username before, so you dont have to tell me to 'next time do a little looking around'. I appreciate that, yet you do not have to be a crackhead about it. I have owned 7 crx's and only ONE 88. so the changes are not that obvious if you have had only the 89-91 rex's.

Regardless, do you think i have not read those posts before?? you have a whole 8 posts more than me, you dont have to be an ***. The thing is all of those sources are non defnitive. I have read HUNDREDS of posts about the door differences, i was more or less seeing if someone had some REAL life examples of the differences.

you must have an 88 HF, because 88 DX and Si have rear wipers...

 

from what i know all 88's had pillar mounted seat belts and all 89-91's had door mounted seat belts, except for i beleave the 89 hf's had pillar mounted seat belts as well.

so i think your asking what year/model crx's had the same door panels as the 88's and the answer is: all 88's and i THINK 89 hf's

i know one model 89 had pillar mounted belts but im not 100% sure if its the hf but i beleave it is.

also i personally like the newer years better because of the thinner moldings, wraparound line on tail lights, turn signals that have hiden screw atachment.

and although the door mounted seat belts are a little annoying, i like them better

also im not sure what year or models had the rear wiper, but i personally like to be able to see out my rear window in the rain, i personally have swapped hatches for one with a rear wiper.

i dont know the suspension differance, but i have 88 suspension on my 91 anyway...

 

i know that the 88 is the only CRX with those stamped rear arms and i hear that they aren't very good compared to the 89-91 rear arms.

Guess you shouldn't believe everything that you hear, and you certainly shouldn't spread "hear-say" places where people believe it. You do realize that the 88 rear LCA's are just like ITR ones. Wrap your mind around that.

I personally like all year CRX's.

 

89 Hfs DO have pillar mounted seat belts. Trust me...

88s have different lower control arms(LCA). Thats why some say the suspension is better.

I can see why you say they are better...they are lighter. But you can change any year crx to be how you want it.

 

Well, the funny thing is i had an 89 si that had b-pillar mounted seatbelts i swear. The only reason I know for sure is the fact that i put the EF7 seats from Japan in them and the EF7 door panels and everything mounted/installed no problems. I worked at/ran a JDM importing shop in Houston before and had access to anything rex i wanted. The 88, i realize would be the ultimate vehicle for restoring in other words cause everyhting that you can get in PERFECT condition can be installed without having to change anything (as it was made in JAPAN to their specs as far as the chassis goes)

The reason for this post was not to really ask which doors i could buy, or what differences were, but to try and clarify some things i thought i knew. So far out of everything i have seen/read/researched it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to have had b-pillar seatbelts in my 89 si, yet I had them. There are plenty of posts out there that have wrong/misinformation about plenty of things and i just wanted to find out THE RIGHT information. Thanks for all the replies.

BTW the rear wiper thing, i have an 88 DX and it came without the wiper...someone shattered my back glass, so i replaced it with an 88 hf and still no rear wiper. Not sure which had and which didnt. mine was BONE stock when i got it, so i doubt someone had swithced it before hand. My 90 dx and 91 si both have rear wipers....IDK. and the suspension differences were the rear trailing arm is like the ITRs and has passive assist (cant remember exactly what it is called, but some like it and some dont....even my dad noticed that my 88 handles better than my 90) but it only came on the 88s as well.

I have an 88 DX and it doesn't have a rear wiper.

LOL, yeah drive on down to L.A. sir. Maybe, I don't know what Honda was thinking, I have even seen some Honda's without a passenger side mirror too. They've done quite a few weird things.
