Best Oil / Radiator Cap Combo for the s2000? Pics?
I always hear all the names thrown around such as Spoon, Mugen, J's, Blitz, etc but never know what these look like!
Figured it would be nice to have a single thread where people can see how these look so post pics of your engine bay with these caps?
thanks,
rick

Not the radiator cap. I use a Mugen 1.3 kgf/cm cap on my Koyo, with distilled water and Royal Purple Ice at the tracks; temperature never fluctuates away from 6 bars (AP2), no matter how hard I beat it.

The Spoon thermo is better, it opens a little earlier.
My point is that the stock one keeps 1.1 kgf/cm. 1.3 is 1.3, no matter what brand. I used the Mugen one because I got it for cheap.

Thanks Greg for the pics of the J's....now just gotta find the mugen, spoon and other ones....
which one you think would go well with my engine bay?

I am using the Mugen 1.3 (cheap and easy to get)
and an ebay Mugen replica oil cap that matches my valve cover (laguna blue) that cost < $10. There is nothing to an oil cap except a good seal so IMO it's retarded to pay $100's for them.

not really, by raising the pressure from stock 1.1 bar to 1.3 you are increasing the boiling point of the sealed internal pressurized cooling system. meaning you can get some extra margin of safety before getting overheated at the track. i doubt you can feel anything on the street, but it's a good investment for trackwhore.
make sure you do a pressure test on the cap for older vehicle, sometime you have a bunch of old pipe and hose that barely holds the pressure, and you add a new cap/higher psi cap and you'll have all kind of leak. i replaced the cap on my acura legend and had to pitch up 3 hoses including the one to the heatercore. no fun
the oil cap is just a show piece.

all other brands are mainly for aesthetics. even stock radiator cap should be fine. unless you're beating the hell outta the car or you live on the sun... if you're car's running too hot chances are you have problems with your cooling system.

I agree that oem is the ftw and its mostly USED as a cosmetic part but it is not all cosmetic. a cap that holds less pressure will let the coolant boil and evap faster than a cap with proper pressure rating for the system.
