Default auto tranny swap this weekend.

Is there anything that I should be aware of when swapping out the auto tranny in a 98 Acura EL 1.6?

I have a auto tranny from a 99 Civic Si and I am hoping that everything is bolt on affair.

Any tips or tricks I need to know before doing all of this?

Thanks

They both have a d16y8, so you should be fine. Just make sure to disconnect the cables first. Pull the flywheel cover and get all the bolts off the flex plate (a ton of 10mm heads). Aside from that, pretty straight forward.
It's almost easier to pull the motor, some times. The auto trannies can be a bitch to line back up because of their weight.

I think that the only thing that I will need to remove from the flex plate is the torque converter.

The reason that I'm replacing the stupid tranny is that somehow the first gear clutch pack is fried (only 100, 000km's) and its never been bagged or anything.

Oh well. Need to fix it so I have no choice.

What would you guys recommend? Pull engine and tranny or just pull tranny?

Thanks

this is what i recommend, if someone is helping you, then pull the tranny. 4 hands are better than 2.

if you're going to attempt this alone, pull the motor out. it's alittle more work, but alot easier the long run since you'll be alone.

and the third off coarse is you can pay someone. i have a 89 accord (auto[200, 000mi.]) and it's slipping too. so i know how you feel.

Ok, maybe the Acura has a d16y8 but a Si has a b16 and I know that for sure

I should've clarified. The Si in canada is really the US HX model (I think that what it is). the SiR is the one with a B16A and yes you're correct that it only comes in a m/t configuration.

So for our American friends my tranny is actually from a 99 civic hx.

I'm proficient in pulling motors/tranny's out as a whole but I have done many changeouts (m/t only though) where the motor was left in the car. I do have a cherry picker and all that fun stuff just no hoist. I figure something out I suppose Pulling the motor is the best way since things all just pop off but b/c the a/c lines are so fragile I'm paranoid that might break an a/c line or something and that would be bad bad bad....

Well that makes more since. I think the a/c lines will be fine, as long as you dont put the motor down on them. Or something like that. It will be easier for you to pul;l the motor/tranny as a whole.
