Default Scelzi to step away from drag racing at conclusion of the 2007 NHRA season

http://www.nhra.com/content/news/19818.htm

"My family has sacrificed a lot to allow me to chase my dream," said Scelzi, driver of the Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T. "Because of their support, I've accomplished everything I've set out to do in drag racing and so much more. Now it's time for me to watch my kids grow up and to be there for them every day. It's time to help my brothers full time with the business. It's time to hold my wife Julie's hand and tell her I love her every night."

HAHA! He is an awesome driver and I always enjoyed the paint on his cars. By the way, what is the business that he will be helping out with?

there is a big diff. between doing the weekend racing and doing it as a full time job. Racing as a full time profession is more of a life style than it is a job. The hours that it takes can not be counted. It take a huge toll on you personal life you miss alot of little things that you normally would think were that big of a deal. Good luck Gary!

Definitely, being a weekend racer is nothing at all like racing full time. I really respect the people who do it full time, because they give up A LOT to do so. I've had the option a few times, it's just not the life for me.

He has his reasons and being a full time racer does take a toll on a relationship and a family. As much as we love racing, there's more to life than cars. Anyone who values racing over family is a f-ckin IDIOT.

I belive he has a truck dealership... i think they may sell big rigs, but im not too sure.

They were speculating this with him during the interview @ Vegas on ESPN2... i wonder if the Eric Medlen incident helped make his mind up.

He will be back... garunteed!

I dont know, i know thats its a busy career that would keep you away from the family a decent amount, but its a career, we cant all just walk away from our jobs when we dont see out families as much.

He owns a business with his brothers and he use to own a trucking company. I think he will be ok. Have you ever heard of quiting one job and starting a new one. And it isnt a career that keeps you away from your faimly a decent amount it is a career that keeps you away from your faimly a lot. They do 23 races in a season plus testing and things he has to do for Oakley and DSR. I would bet that he is away from his family about 200 days a year. if not more.
