No oil holes on big needle bearing in transmission housing?
I'm still banging my head against this silly transmission, finally got around to completely disassembling the countershaft in case that's where the problem was. In so doing, D pointed out that the needle bearing that rests in the housing (number 18 below) should have oil holes facing up when installed. The bearing I've got in there is the proper size, but has no holes on either face.
Is this cause for concern? I'm pretty sure it was a Honda part, unless the place I sent the transmission to that screwed everything up in the first place used some identically-sized part from a different car. Just wonder if anyone has encountered this before.

Ive replaced that needle bearing twice in the past few months, and AFAIK I dont recall there being any oil holes on it, top or bottom. heres a closer pic of the diagram and its exactly what it looks like. Also note the Civic SI part is the exact same and about $20 cheaper through Honda compared to the Acura part.
I have that part in my hands right now. PN#91101-P80-008

Good info. The Helm manual is pretty explicit regarding installation of this CS bearing with the oil holes facing up, and from memory, the 3 tranny's i have in my garage all have said oil holes.
Len, can you look at part #/history and see what revisions/updates have taken place over the life of said part?

I've had a mixed bag with the oil holes. The LS transmission I did didn't have them, but the last two GS-R transmissions I've rebuilt have had them. None of the D-series transmissions have had the oil holes.

I still have the 2 bearings I recently removed from my trans. One is the OEM bearing that was in the trans from the factory, the other is from Honda for a Civic SI trans.
They actually have different numbers on them but the dont have the oil holes. Both sides look exactly the same except for the stamped part number.
