How does bike theft compare to Honda theft?
Hey,
I'm a noob to the bike forums here, so easy on me if this is a repost. I searched.
I own an integra and am always paranoid leaving my car overnight on the street or in my driveway seeing how hondas, but especially integras, get stolen all the time. It isn't very bad here in Maine, but I will be going to school in Philadelphia next year and don't plan on bringing the car down cause of theft.
Would a bike be safer to keep in the city? What do people use for affective theft prevention?
Thanks

I would say no... think about it anyone can pull over to your bike with a truck and carry the bike to the truck and take off... I was thinking about leaving my bike outside too but then I was like oh hell no... so i posted an add at my apt complex for anyone with a garage if I could share their garage... Two weeks later a guy with a bike calls me and tells me that we can split the cost of the garage.... so now thats where i park it...
smart. kind of defeats the purpose of having the bike for me though. might as well just rent a garage for the teg
anybody from philly wanna leave their .02 cents?

I sold my integra and moved to motorcycling. I actually have slightly less paranoia with my bikes then i ever did with the integra. My integra drove me insane with attempted thefts, vandalism, and parts stolen.
Nothing has happened to my bikes and i have stored them the exact same way as my Integra.
Often times with the bikes though i will park right on the sidewalk next to the entrance of whatever i'm doing.
Last time i went to this big movie theater in my area with my integra my factory lip kit was stolen off of it. I've gone there three times since on a bike, parked up on the sidewalk near the ticket counter, and have had no problems.
Usually I'm riding there with a friend, and i bring a big 20lb chain lock and lock our bikes together. If someone wanted to walk off with them they'd have to clip the locks and pick them up in front of people and police.
The point is, nothing nice is ever going to be safe from thieves. You can get lojack, you can get an alarm, you can chain it to stuff. But as always, if someone wants it, they can take it.
What you can do is always park your bike inside when at home. If you can't then you run that risk. When you're out, select where you're riding to carefully. Or, if you're really worried about getting it stolen, get something nobody's interested in. That would be an important commuter. If you're commuting everywhere on a 600rr then you're more likely to get jacked.
Oh, and full coverage insurance is your best friend.

Exactly the kind of response i was looking for, thanks. I've been lucky with my car so far, but i installed a fuel cutoff and a few other goodies to ease my mind.

well I have a garage currently. but I may move somewhere where I dont for a while in the future.
I was thinking would they allow a bike to be stored in a storage place with your own seperate locker type unit.
and how much rent do they charge on those anyways? 40 a month or something?

i wouldn't say that bike theft rates are better than honda theft rates.
seeing how many bikes get stolen all the time, it's certainly a risk. the market is ALWAYS there for bike parts (since people crash them all the time and need replacements), they're easy to steal (pick it up w/ 2 guys, throw into truck, jam).

alright. thanks for the responses... ill have to think about it some more. ill probably get something low key and try my luck parking it on the street if i cant find a garage or storage space to share. in the end a bike will be cheaper to replace then my car
