91 si motor removal
Okay guys I searched but found only half an answer to my question... First off can the entire motor and tranny be pulled together or do I have to remove the tranny from the motor? Second what all must I disconnect or remove in order to remove the motor? (obviously the exhaust) I will be selling this d16 when I get it out I am going to be doing a motor swap if anyone would be interested in it and the tranny ... Im not allowed to post in the forsale forum yet or Id put it in there sorry guys. Any help is appriciated.. im going out to get a chiltons so hopefully ill get sum tips in there
yes u can remove engine and tranny together. u have to take axels out disconnect the fuel line and unplug engine harness plugs the two next to the shock tower and the one to the resistor box and the one behide that throw the lose wiring on top of motor then pull the motor out if i lived near u would of helped u real eazy
plans are ls vtec... I was going to go with the cr vtec but.. was told if im going to go boosted id be better off with the ls block and sleeve it.. pretty much bullet proof from what im told.. also I have a buddy here where I live who did ls vtec boosted and built and supposely hes pushing 500hp and 11s in his crx
do you have to remove the axles from the hub? or can you remove them from just the tranny? im pretty sure you can but i want to make sure. im also doing an engine swap, this weekend
Drain the coolant from the radiator and the block(there is a 19mm bolt behind the header), drain the oil. Then pull the radiator out. It is not hard to put back in and it frees up more space. Then Just disconnect( label if you are not fimilar with where things go) anything that is connect to the engine that would stop it from coming out.
EDIT: you might also have to take the hood off. I just pulled an engine out without taking it off but it was a really close fit. I would recomned you taking it off if you have never pulled an engine.

I have never left axels in the hubs when I have pulled them from the tranny. It is really easy to put the axles back in the hub anyway so I don't know why you wouldn't do it. If you unbolt the lower control arm you then might be able to leave the axle in the hub but it would not take much longer to pop the ball joints and take the axles out of the hub.
