Default tapp size for 02 sensor bung??

im having to make a remote mounted 02 sensor for a project im working on. but i cant be 100% sure of the tap size i need. i dont know if all 02 sensors have the same threads, but i would assume a bosch sensor has a standard size? i only have a standard thread pitch gauge so im not sure if its metric or not. the closest i could come up with was an 11/16 - 18. id really appreciate a little help if it can be offered. and ill take some pics of what i did as well. thanks in advance.

They're not bad, i think i paid like $35 for mine from Enco, better than the $280 NTK o2 sensor i lost because of jacked up threads in someone's downpipe! lol

I'm guessing there's some reason you can't buy a $10 bung and weld it on?

yeah, you'll see when i take some snapshots. its not a standard project, but im gonna hold out on you guys till its done. i bought an innovate LM-1 and it came with the bung, but im using aluminum not steel, so it was useless.

and screw florida tech machine shop!! i hunted through the taps all morning and got really happy when i saw one in the M18 1.5 box. but it was a 16 . so im trying to find one from someone else before i call the snap-on guy or something.

that's pretty handy, i couldn't find any 18x1.5 nuts when i made my alum. downpipe. I just drilled and tapped solid alum tube.

Napa and AutoZone stores etc usually carry them as well. That's where I got mine. Just ask for a tap for an O2 sensor. If you tell them 18 x 1.5 they get real confused

I think generally Autozone and Napa are going to give you a thread chaser, which is fine for cleaning up threads that are damaged, but not for cutting threads in a new hole.

Meh, I've bought an actual O2 tap from Napa before, so I know they carry them. Might not get the right one at first, but they have it.

WAY back when I got my first Honda, I replaced the O2 sensor, but the threads in the cast mani were REALLY bad, crossthreaded to the max. I went to a local True Value hardware store, grabbed the largest tap they had for around $18, and it turned out I got the right tap @ M18x1.5!

I've used it many times to chase bad threads as well as make new holes in steel. Its a regular tap, as it has a tappered end and large reliefs for chips.

well here is a pic of what i did. its a jetski, so i had no option on where i could put the sensor. the manifold has water jackets in it, and the exhaust is water injected. so i had about a half inch square to drill into, and that is the ONLY place that i wouldnt hit the water jackets in the manifold.

my new dilemna is that i must have a loose fitting somewhere. im getting really lean readings, so i have some stuff to check out. i got the idea from a guy who runs an engine dyno all day every day, so ive got a fair amount of trust in his suggestion. hopefully it works . im going to be tuning on E85 if i can ge the damn kinks in the ECU worked out. thanks guys, hope you enjoy

That's cool, jetski's pose all kinds of problems since everything is water cooled. I tuned a turbo jetski motor on an engine dyno a couple weeks ago, 1500cc Kawasaki motor with a GT28 and Motec M4, 343bhp at 13psi on 93 octane. We were going to do E85, but the fact that it consumes a lot more fuel was the turnoff. You already have a limited supply of fuel on the ski. They have some 25-30 min. races and we figured that it would need refuled before that long of racing.

yeah, if everything goes well, ill be pulling the motor and putting it on a dyno as well. im trying to make it meet the upcoming emissions requirements, so......
