did a quick search and found nothing relevant.
i'm buying a house this month and so it's toy shopping time
squee for me! obv one of my prerequisites is that there be a big garage and lots of additional parking for all the toys. *dreamy eyes*
one thing that i've always wanted is a lift in my garage, which allows me to more easily do my work, and can (?) double as extra car storage.
does anyone have any experience with these and reputable brands? i know nothing on these, except that i probably want a 2 poster so i can lift the car from the frame to do brake jobs.. and that typie will probably be sitting up there most of the time, so ideally long term storage will be ok with this setup. hopefully that is possible. weight of 7000 lbs which seems standard is more than adequate, and i don't want to spend more than 2K on it.
thanks in advance for any feedback!

I forgot who exactly and what thread exactly, but someone here had their R fall from one of these lifts. I think they mentioned that the lift was faulty and that one of the arms had problems though. Anyone know who and what thread I'm talking about?
PM me, I'll get you all the details you want, not necessarily on the particular one you posted, but I've been around lifts for years, and could get you some up close and personal pics if needed.

this is similar to the one we have: http://www.bendpak.com/product...d=750
ours is the XP-12ACX which they don't have listed there.. basically the same thing as the link I posted but with the 12k capacity. shop around, ours was only a couple thousand shipped.
$2345 here, the first place I checked for the XP-10ACX: http://www.liftmyrod.com/BendPakLifts.asp
we installed it ourselves (dad and I) and have had absolutely 0 problems with it.. my dad did a TON of research before we bought and the Bend Pak's had very good feedback.
I highly recommend the offset ones like this as they let the car sit back a little farther making it easier to open doors and stuff.. I also recommend the overhead bar design of this one..
just make sure the garage is tall enough and that the floors are at least 4" thick concrete if getting a two poster..
pics of ours:
opening it up from the shipping packaging-

in use-

after we finished the rest of the garage-

Make sure any of the legs don't start retracting on themselves while lifting the car up in the air. One of our lifts does that and we have to be extra carefull with it.
Other than that, just keep it greased up.

thanks for the info so far
i'll keep in mind looking at the offset ones, and see about the concrete floor
i had the inspection yesterday and measured things out in the garage. i think i might be a couple inches too narrow to fit the lift in, without modifying a few things.
so either i will mod and put a lift in, or just build an upstairs bathroom in that area
argh! i have the height too, dammit. i just want a pimp garage and a walk in closet. is that so much to ask!

Some hydrolic lifts require a pretty hefty air tank. Needs to be 1000 gallon standup tank if I am not mistaken. Also is more high maintenance but penpen is ballin now so thats not an issue.
Rotary is a VERY good name brand. You bought a 100K+ on a house, dont cheese out on the lift.

wah.. asymmetrical.. ok i guess that was recommended
oooh so for asymmetrical the posts sit further forward, i see what they mean by that now. hence why you can open doors now vs with a regular lift, where the posts sit towards the middle of the car.
this arrangement would actually work better in the garage. hmm!
but man... time to count pennies again. i really wanted a kitchen remodel and new furniture too
friggin' hobbies... i wish they just had dudes who could come out and tell me how feasible this is
the house hasn't closed yet (still in buying process) but i will keep eyeing and planning and dreaming in the mean time!

working on it.. this is a bit of a feasibility study too.
it might have to wait for the next house if it doesn't fit, though
sniffles.
