Default Looking for 6.5 inch speaker recommendations

I really have no room for a subwoofer or anything bigger than a pair 6.5 inch speakers mounted in the oem location.

Can anyone recommend a pair of speakers that will make decent bass with 100watts RMS?

I'm looking at;
JL
JBL
Boston
Cerwin Vega
Momo
Polk

or maybe something you know of.

price range ~$200

I've been trying to locate a shootout of 6.5 speakers on line but I haven't found anything.

I have rigid speaker mounts made of an inch of reinforcement, already.

I just installed the Cerwin Vegas and I am happy with them. I also do not have room for a sub and the bass is adequate with the Vegas. Just don't expect a lot of rumble.

high end speakers in a 6.5" size aren't designed to play low ends well. if you're paying up to $200 for 6.5" speakers and are sending 100watts rms to them. you're going to get extended and clear highs, somewhat adequate midbass. and little to no strong bass.

high end equipment is designed to be integrated with diff. products for an overall sound. theres no do it all speaker on the market.

First the OPs question was "Can anyone recommend a pair of speakers that will make decent bass with 100watts RMS?"

Your also wrong about "little or no strong bass", there is a lot of " bass" between mid-bass and 20Hz sub-bass.
The frequency response of the Eclipse SP6500 is as low as 85Hz, installed and powered properly it will produce more then enough "strong bass" to impress the hell out of most people, take my word for it. 94

Boston Acoustic pros 5 1/4 is what I run, but I also have a ton of watts to them (150x 2) Focals are very nice but cost about 700+ for componets. Polk DB 6.5 are okay for a middle of the road speaker. You have to think about a system as a whole. If you are only going to run deck power don't spend 300+ for speakers. Why you say? Well you'll blow them and thats just lame. Power doesn't blow speakers, lack of power does. (most of the time). Also if your trying to get more bass out of a small speaker , get some dynomat it helps ALOT. But don't think that a 6.5 is going to bump. Why can't you fit a sub in your car?

So much misinformation I hardly know where to start.

The price of a speaker has nothing to do with how well it will play off of HU power.

Yes overpowering speakers will blow them, under-powering them will not, it's when you drive an underpowered amp into constant clipping that will blow them.
Although Dynamat, [or the like] will help SQ of any speaker there is a hell of a lot more to getting the best possible bass response out of a speaker.

I run 2pr 6.5" off an Alpine HU, no off board amps and no sub, your one of the people that would insist I have an amp and sub hidden in the car someplace, but you would be wrong.

PS, you are however correct when you said, "get some dynomat it helps ALOT"

Powering highend speakers off a HU will kill them if you play them loud , considering most HU have maybe 12 watts maxs And if you think a Jenson speaker is just as good as a Boston or Focal you are saddly mistaken , Ever heard of " you get what you pay for"Yes overpowering speakers will blow them, under-powering them will not, ( This is Very bad information)it's when you drive an underpowered amp into constant clipping that will blow them. Most head units start to clip at 3/4 volume

I would be one of those people yes, Most HUs don't have the dynamic power to make great sound. I play music loud and know that a HU power WILL NOT sound as good as an properly powered system.

If you are looking for some bass and already got a nice set of speakers up front u could get a set of kicker 6.5" midbass speakers or even the 8" like i got for the rear of my crx.
