Default Simple Tune

About tunning the D17 Engine.. Whats the best way to make it more responsive?

I don't want to add a thumping great exhaust with Decat and a S/S Filter etc if necessary.

Any Simple rule of thumb things to spice up the engine or things that you guys have found to be more efficient than others.

I have came up with a few posts on here and other pages stating which cams etc provided to be good at upping the power over the 120 or so standard. The car is the 1.7 VTEC by the way.

Thing i loved about my EG6 was i could swap over ITR manifold, CTR cams, VTi Pistons etc etc and create a new feeling motor. Is there any thing i can swap over into the Coops engine??

I have heard the Suzuki Vitara Pistons are a decent mod to do since they are stronger than the Honda ones. particulary if forced induction is on the cards.

Anyways any advice on where to start would be appreciated

vitaras are a low buck option for dropping compression. They're not necessarily stronger and are still cast. I dont know of anyone who's tried it in a D17, the piston heights are different, you'd have to measure it all to be sure it works.
You're going to have to open up the motor if you want something out of it, It seems that the cam has some room to gain + a decient tune with a Hondata or EMS box. If 30 HP is worth $2000+ then have at it. If not, join the club and boost it.

To mod our cars to be even just mildly quick N/A requires WAY to much money.

The money you spend to get a quick N/A car, u can easily do a low boost project. If u are scared about power, then turn down ur boost to 5-6 psi. Then if u ever do want more power ( which i gaurantee u will) u can always increase the boost without going out and spending a whole bunch ( just a re-tune)
