Default recommendations for stripped bolts

ok well pulling the differential out of the s2k my friend stripped some of the alan head bolts where the driveshaft bolts on the diff. so we had to unbolt it from the front and drop the driveshaft with the diff. any recommendations on gettin the stripped bolts out? i thought goin up to the next size alan key and hammering it in and seein if that would work. any ideas?

Go with a smaller size socket/allan key, hammer it in and go at it. Put some wd40 on it first, and use an impact wrench/power tool.

I'd cut a slot in it with a dremel and use an impact screwdriver to remove the bolt. No sense in ruining an allen key buy smacking it with a hammer.

Another vote here to shave the heads off. I had to do it once, getting the diff out of the car though

I worked for Mercedes Benz for 5 years as a tech...all allens. take large flat punch and hit side of allen head (hard non of this ***** sh\\). insert allen socket hit back of socket till bottoms out. IF you strip allen use Torx bit of close size and pound into head. loosen. worse case air hammer.

they use allen heads because of the driveshaft design.. its a tight fit therefore need smaller bolt head...

people stripped it cuz they use warped allen keys and keep forcing it..

At Autozone or Advance Auto they have this socket set designed for stripped bolts. The sockets' teeth are sharp and tapered, so you hammer them in and they actually cut into the bolts (from the outside at least...but don't see why it wouldn't work even on a round allen head), and then you just go for it normally and it should come off.

edit:

This is it

Stripped bolts you give them a dollar cause they are working their way through college and may have little bolts to feed.
