Default R.I.P. Don Polk

A friend of mine just informed me that Former Mitsu drag racer Don Polk of "Polk Performance" past away this weekend. From what I understand, he was in another motorcycle accident. R.I.P.

I'm so sick of hearing about drag racers (car, bike, expletive a go kart even) dying! This is so terrible!

RIP Don && those that we've lost in the past present and future.

I knew Don, personally. He was TRULY a unique character. I was never a paying customer, but Don was NEVER hesitant to provide assistance or advice. True, he was a "Mitsu" guy, but David, his brother, had a GS-R that they sprayed the SH*T out of. Funny thing was, Don wasn't crazy about Hondas....and that was the bulk of his market around here. He was WIDELY respected headporter....he ported heads from all over the US, and I'm sure from some other countries. He loved it....I'd always heard comments about people asking him if he wanted to go ride on Sunday, and he'd reply that he had work to do. He truly loved performing his craft. Don was HILARIOUS and CRAZY! IDK how accurate it is, but I heard he was doing over 120mph on his quad and hit a rock.

It was heartwarming to see the outpouring of support for the Polks at Don's visitation. Little Rock isn't that big of a town, and EVERY "car guy" that I know was at the Funeral Home. There was a line wrapped around the wall of the room and coming out the door to see the family. I can't believe he's gone. I wasn't ever all that close with him, but he WILL BE MISSED!!

I heard John, the owner of the LS1 swapped RX-7, talking about the PIPES episode that they filmed. He didn't have much good to say about the "Tech" guy on the show. If you've seen it, there's a "no sandbagging" requirement. They raced a GS-R swapped Hatch that picked up CRAZY numbers out of an intake and exhaust. Suspect them of disabling VTEC and crushing the exhaust with a jack on the initial runs....then repairing the VTEC and replacing the exhaust, and "OMG....100 HP out of an intake and exhaust!" Anyone who knows d*ck about Hondas would've known wtf was up when VTEC never changed cam profiles in the 1st race.

So....I guess I'm campaigning for a vote to bring them back!
