Falken Azenis
I'm going to pick up some tires this week and am planning on picking up a set of Falken Azenis. I know the treadwear aint all that but I like the traction it gives. Was wondering if any of you tire gurus have any input on this. I am willing to get another type of tire if it is "better" than the azenis but within the same price range.
I live in so cal so snow is no biggie. I want a tire that handles hella good in summer but can keep me safe in the rain. Thanks
OH, and cause I am pic ***** and a thread is no good with out pics, this is what it will be going on . .. .

SoCal? Hella?
Azenis are great tires. If these are street only for you, and your ok with the tread wear, then you wont find anything better in the price range. Thats why they are so popular.

If you want better thread wear and better wet performance but are whilling to selt for 2nd best to the Azenis in dry traction then the Goodyear F1 GS D3 is for you!
When I mean 2nd to the Azenis in dry performance, I mean 2nd to it! Don't get me wrong the Azenis is great but for all round its not.
I have SPT for the street and Azenis for auto-x and hpde events

The Falken Azenis RT-615 is a very sticky tire on dry pavement. Its downsides are rapid treadwear (10-12K miles is typical) and only so-so performance in rain. If you're only looking for dry traction, and you don't care about anything else, this is the tire to get.
However, in all honesty, it sounds like you DO care about wet traction (since you mention rain) and value (since you mention purchase price, although treadlife is just as important to value as purchase price, since treadlife determines how soon you will need to buy another set).
You don't mention what size wheels you have on your CRX, and that affects which tires are available for your car.
Basically, you have three choices:
1. Outstanding dry traction only - get the Azenis. Available in 195/60-14 or 205/50-15, both of which are a bit big for your car, but you're stuck with what you can get.
2. Outstanding dry traction and wet traction and long treadlife (25-40K miles) - get the Goodyear F1 GS-D3. A bit more money, but should last 2-3 times as long as the Azenis, so the cost per mile is less. Available in 195/50-15, perfect for your car. Not available in 14" sizes.
3. Pretty good dry traction and excellent wet traction, combined with a low purchase price and long treadlife (25-40K miles) - get the Kumho SPT in 195/50-15, or the Yokohama ES100 in either 185/60-14 or 195/50-15.

Well, I ended picking up the azenis and I mounted them on the car. I got them in 205/50/15. They fit and look extremely, no wait, Hella nice. They are a little noisy but that don't bother me. But I now have another question. I now realize that falken had an older version of the azenis and a newer one. I heard the newer one sucked. Does anybody have pics of the old and the new so I can tell what I have?

Nonsense. The newer one sticks just as well, is better in rain - not great, but not as bad as the older one - and is much better at managing heat generated when driven hard. Here, read this article.

I agree the newer RT615 are much better then the RT215. They do generate heat better and are better in the rain. A friend of mine at a local auto-x meet told me that he feels a difference in grip between the old and new Azenis. He says they just grip much better!

Yup...I've daily driven/autocrossed on both and I'd have to say the RT615 are an improvement over the RT215.
Great tire.

yeah these are good tires...but you gotta remember that you can't scorch these tires too much because these tires are medium soft...so they are pretty sticky...but over all...the tires are good for the price....i have them on my rotas...
