Acura Says My Stock Brake Pads Aren't OEM!?
I took my 'R in for it's 15K checkup last Friday at the Acura dealer I bought it from... After I had picked it up I saw the mechanic had made a notation that my front brake pads were <u>"Not OEM"</u>!? I have never had any brake work done on my car, so I want to go back and bitch about this today... Does anyone know how to identify OEM pads - do they say Acura on them or something? Is there anyway I can force them to replace those pads for free with OEM ones?

If your brakes have never been touched, and you only have 15k miles on your car, maybe the Acura tech needs glasses. How would non "OEM" pads make it's way on your car?
did u buy it used?
Do I have any legal recourse to demand they install new OEM pads?

No, it was bought new from the dealer!... The front pads are wearing faster (80% left, as opposed to 90% for the rears), but I assume that's normal!?... If they are not OEM, what type of pads would the factory have put on?

Mechanics are told to watch for non-OEM pads, unusual rotor wear and overheating as a sign that the car's been going to the road courses.
The guy was just a little overzealous.
Just have a talk w/the service manager, and it should be fine.

Fronts ALWAYS wear out faster. Think about it. They do all the work.
I also have tons of miles on the car, so I must not be hard enough on the brakes...

No they don't *always* wear out faster -- yes, they do more work, but if the rears are a lot smaller, they could still wear out first. Your logic would only apply if the front and rear parts were identical. I've had my rear pads replaced on the ITR, but not my front pads. My previous car wore out the rears first also.

are you using a different compound front and rear. If the compound is the same it almost always wears out the front first unless you use the hand brake alot...
