Default Shift boot help

I installed a ctr the one with the red stitching in my hatch 96. NO Problems with the install. I wanted it to stay up, but it doesn't it looks limp not rock hard up. well i thought it was because my old boot didn't have that plastic ring, it didn't stay up. the new old has it but no luck it goes limp. some one know what to do or how to fix it. i was going to put a washer on the shifter but don't know if it will work when i get a different ****. i just want the boot to stay up any help?

It isn't supposed to stay up. It should leave some of the shifter exposed like this one (from an ITR):

What do you mean by "rock hard up"?

I don't think leather shift boots need to be hard at all. Sounds like you have some technical difficulties.

Maybe see an orthopod.

Kidding aside, yeah there should be probably 1"-2" between the boot top and the ****. I pushed mine all the way down so about 8" of the shifter is exposed. I think it looks neat and I can show off ym skunk2 bling.

wrap some rubber bands under the ****. that will keep the boot where you want it

take some black electrical tape and wrap it around the shifter, wrap it around enough times to where the boot's hole can't slide over the tape, and there you have it. Ive been rocking mine that way for over a year

I had the same problem with my EH3. All I did was use a ziptie and put underneath the plastic ring on the boot. That will keep your boot up no problem.

The way I do it, and it works PERFECTLY, is two neoprene washers from a hardware store. Take your entire shifter console off, put the neoprene washers on, and then replace your boot and console. Then start threading your shift ****, and slowly push your boot down as needed. It'll stay perfectly flush.
