Default 97 civic very scary unstable at hwy speeds. What could be the problem?

For some reason the car just doesn't want to stay still. For instance, if I down shift to speed up, the car will start jerking left and/or right and I have to fight with the wheel to get it to stay in the lane. I've been told that maybe the tie rod ends are going bad and causing this. Has anybody dealt with this before? What do I need to look for?

Thanks in advance

Cool might have to give that a try and see if it fixes it. Any other things that I should replace that may cause this?
