On 9/13/06 Collective Racing's owner Scott Byars purchased two used engine swap packages for customer related jobs. Items ordered were the following:
**1995 Honda Prelude H22A engine, M2B4 "limited slip" transmission, 1995 Prelude shifter assembly and cables, and 1995 Honda Prelude P13 ECU.
** 1997 Honda Accord SIR-T F20B engine, T2T4 "limited slip" transmission, 1997 Accord SIR-T shifter cables, and 1997 Accord SIR-T ECU.
Total cost delivered was $4400.00 US
Upon arrival, both engine sets were received were dirty, with minimal damage, and missing parts which was made to the attention to John (no last name given) at Osakajdmmotors.com on 9/18/06.
Osakajdmmotors.com requested a fax copy of all missing parts and damage.
Faxed to them on 9/18/06 was the following list:
Damaged: "unknown" ECU provided with 1995 Prelude engine.
Damaged: Throttle Position Sensor 1995 Honda Prelude engine.
Missing: Shifter assembly and cables 1995 Honda Prelude.
Missing: Shifter assembly and cables for 1997 Accord SIR-T engine.
Missing: Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor 1997 Accord SIR-T engine.
Damaged: Valve cover 1997 Accord SIR-T engine
Osakajdmmotors.com (John) apologized for the mishaps and stated the replacement parts would be sent the next day 9/19/06.
While waiting for the replacement parts, Collective Racing proceeded with the installation process of the 1995 Honda Prelude Engine and Transmission into the customer?s car and near completion found the 1995 Honda Prelude engine to smoke and consume oil at an extremely high rate. Further diagnostic proved bad cylinder leak down, indicating that the engine was internally damaged.
Osakajdmmotors.com (John) was notified on 9/22/06 of the engine failure and was told to call back the following day.
On 9/23/06 John was contacted and he requested that Collective Racing disassemble the 1995 Honda Prelude H22A engine to find out what was the problem. After disassembly, a large gouge was found in a cylinder and a repair was not possible. Pictures were taken as proof of the damage and were e-mailed to Osakajdmmotors.com
From 9/24/06 to 10/5/06 daily calls were made to find out the status of the replacement part originally asked for (originally faxed list) as well as a resolution for the bad engine. On 10/5/06 Collective racing was told to "quit calling".
No replacement parts had been received and a resolution on the bad engine was not reached despite Collective Racing's constant attempts.
On 10/10/06 Collective Racing's customer is given a full refund and collects their vehicle to be taken to another facility to complete work. The time frame Collective Racing spends on a "normal" job of this scope is 3 days (at most). This went beyond and the customer was unhappy.
10/06/06- 10/12/06 daily calls are made to Osakajdmmotors.com for "any" resolution.
No replacement parts are received for the original complaint. John agreed that he would send a replacement engine for the bad engine.
10/13/06 Osakajdmmotors.com attempted to deliver a replacement engine block, not a complete engine. The delivery attempt was made by UPS. The engine block arrived with damaged packaging resulting in damage to the engine block?s deck surface. The engine was full of dirt and what appeared to be grass. The delivery was refused and Osakajdmmotors.com was notified.
10/17/06-10/20/06 Daily calls were made to Osakajdmmotors.com for resolution and calls were turned away.
10/25/06 Collective Racing started the 2nd project for the remaining Accord SIR-T engine and finds that this engine is also bad due to excessive "crank walk". This is another internal engine problem that makes this process undeliverable to the customer. The specifically ordered transmission is not the correct T2T4 ?limited slip? transmission and pictures are taken as proof and e-mailed to John at Osakajdmmotors.com.
10/25/06 the bank was notified and dispute #1 was started.
10/25/06 Osakajdmmotors.com was called, but the call was refused.
10/26/06 through 11/03/06 Daily calls were made for some type of resolution and most of the calls were refused or John was "not available".
On 11/03/06 John and Collective Racing agree to send back all purchased items for a full refund.
11/06/06 Yellow freight picks up requested items on 2 pallets from Collective Racing and freight bill TSN 069 976928 4 is assigned. Pictures of the pallets were taken to verify contents returned to Osakajdmmotors.com
11/28/06 John at Osakajdmmotors is contacted and verified that he had received the returned items and stated that no refund would be given.
11/28/06 dispute #2 with Bank was opened
Ultimately, we had sufficient proof that we were 100% accountable on our end. My bank sides in my favor.
This post is to warn potential "would be" buyers. My advise avoid these guys at all costs.

I had a customer who swore by Osaka and refused to buy from Steve at Hmotors. I have always been loyal to Steve with the exception of this case. I told my customer how I felt, but he refused anyway. It all worked out in the end, but could have been worse. This is the story, NOW LISTEN UP!

This is one of several threads about their bad experiences with osaka. Everytime these threads come up everyone says they should be shut down and I fully agree. People just need to be more informed of their poor service so no one shops with them anymore. Anyway, it looks like your resolution turned out alot better than the last couple that I've seen.

in the past few years, i have never ONCE heard one good thing about osuka, and ive seen literally dozens of "ive been ripped off for a bad motor by osaka" threads.

I hear the word "Osaka" and I cringe every time! And I always know that the thread isn't going to be a good one. So what is the bank going to do about it now? Did they refund your money and go after Osaka?
If you look at the site itself, even if they were a reputable company, personally, I don't like the way they seem to take care of there inventory. The warehouse looked strewn about. The engines themselves didn't look to be very well taken care of. Also, the website itself seems to be built poorly. Spelling and grammar errors are everywhere, and that to me just screams scam//unprofessionalism.
Not sure about National Shipping but I have had great luck with Eric Japan Engines in Chicago. $1100 or so for a JDM H22 and he charged me $25 to deliver it about 20 miles. I personally run 2 engines from them and have MIDDLED another 8 without any issues.
After seeing the Osaka Grinded engine code thread, people would have to be out of their mind to buy from them! I believe it was Ordered an H23A and got an F20B with shaved engine code!

HMO is where I got my engine too. I almost bitch slapped my friend for trying to go with osaka a month ago. Oh and I don't know about you alls engines but mine has hmo stamped on it. Instead of having h23a1 it has h23a(hmo). Anyone else have the same thing?

Osaka instructed us to open the engines as a diagnosis. That was done, pictures were sent to them with as much detail indicating what was wrong in each case. Before the engines were returned, the were reassembled to their original condition.
We were 100% accountable for our side of the business transaction.
The bank has sided in my favor.
