Get a set of grinding stones, put some paint on your gasket or trace around it, grind away everything to the border of the gasket marks. Pretty simple stuff. Don't polish anything unless you know exactly how you want the air to mix with the fuel

do you think it is really worth the trouble of grinding it?

If you're making, or plan to make enough power to need a bigger throttle body and IM opening. On a stock engine with or without basic bolt-ons, then no it will absolutely not be worth it.

I had a ported intake manifold. I didn't really effect much and just made my intake louder if it wasn't already loud enough. I put the stock one back on.

It doesnt effect much because you didnt do it right and you probably lost power. If you cant flow test it properly then dont do it yourself. Take it to a shop

As Long as the Injector seals arent dried, cracked, and flaking, and still have their rubbery flex to them, they should be OK.

You are better off getting a performance intake manifold, like the Edelbrock PerformerX. The whole runner has a larger cross section and it has a shorter runner. Things you can't change with a port/polish.

I would think, at most you'd see 2hp gain from a good polish job, and you'd be lucky to get more than that with a port job, unless you motor was really built.
