Default correct me if I'm wrong... (tire/suspension measurements vs stock)

I just compared my '96 lx with a coworkers bone-stock '00 lx

my car:
- has 205/40 r16 rubber on 16x7" rims
- measures 1'10" at the top of the fender arch

her car:
- has stock 185/65 r14 rubber on stock steelies
- measures 2'1" at the top of the fender arch

facts I know:
- for 16's on 96-00 civics, they should be on 205/45 r16, technically
- the springs I'm on (which shall remain nameless, but they're not cut OEM) arn't 3" drop springs

so my assumption is:
- I'm lowered 2", and the extra 1" is really a half inch of missing tire diameter

sound about right?
I'm pretty sure it works out, but I want to be positive so I get shocks that will work on a 2" drop.

thanks in advance

The difference in tire sizes should only account for 1/2" of height not 1".

Default

so its 1/4" of missing tire diameter?

thus, my springs are 2.5"?

No, it's a 1" difference in diameter, but only 1/2" is actually affecting the ride height. The other half (above the axle) is merely filling up the wheel well. Does that make sense?

Well, judging solely from the measurements, the springs would be providing an approximate 2.5" drop.

that would make sense.

yeah, I know for sure the ride heights are accurate for each fender from the ground to the apex, all measured on a level surface. it was just a matter of where my springs ended the height difference, and my tire difference began.
