Synthetic oil to High Mileage oil ?
I have a 97 SH with a 147000 miles on it and I was wondering if it was ok to switch over from a synthetic oil to a high mileage oil?
If so, which brand would you guys recommend? Castrol? Pennzoil?
I just want to make an extra precautionary meaure as my engine is reaching some old age.
Thanks guys

Yeah i currently run Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.
My concern was the switching over from Full synthetic to a High mileage oil.
Would it hurt the engine or will the transition damage parts?
Thanks!

Thats a good point, but I just want to know if anybody has experienced anything positive from this transition.
Good or bad? same ?
Ive been running mobil 1 syn since I bought my car back in 97 and my car has been flawless with regards to any engine problems. I just want to make sure I am using the right oil for such a high mileage car.
Thanks again

If you are not having any problems using synthetic, you should stick with it. High mileage oils are of lower quality than synthetic (because of their synthetic/dyno blend). You'll effectively be downgrading for what appears to be no reason other than a label or commercial. Stick with the synthetic.
so your saying that if you dont already use synthetic you should use a blend for a couple of changes then use full synthetic. What could happen if you just switch to full synthetic?
I have alot of miles on my car and i was just wondering. thanks.

I don't think you are going to gain much from High mileage oil honestly. Since you already have ran synthetic for so long, keep it. Synthetic in general is a lot better than conventional or blends.
Its easy.......high milage oils are not a "Scam",they are formulated for different reasons than a synthetic.Usually the biggest bennefit from high milage oil is that they help condition/recondition older rubber/plastic seals in the engine. They also usually have a higher detergent level to help clean carbon, and other"sludge' from the engine.
With that said, a quality full synthetic like mobile 1, redline, royal purple, even torco,is a much better peformance oil,and even all around oil,but synthetics are very very slippery in contrast to conventional and high milage oils,so they are not always the best option for a car with 150k on the odometer.Your car is obiously an exception, and would tell you that as long as you have no problems with running full synthetic, stick with it.Mobile 1 is a great oil,and if u have no oil burning problems,or leaks stick with it for as long as you can.

That's not entirely accurate. As long as you stay within the same brand, you can switch from conventional to synthetic, or even mix the two. The key to it all is the additive package. That's why it's bad to mix different brands. If you're already running a certain brand, see if that brand makes a synthetic oil. If they do, simply switch to that your next oil change. However, on an older motor, switching to synthetic, reguardless of brand, can cause some unexpected leaks
