Default Clicking and burning smell.

I was driving and my car began to mess up. The tachometer drops every couple seconds and every time it drops there is a clicking sound from behind the glove box. There is also a burning plastic smell from the engine bay, and inside the cabin. When it first happend, the battery light and the check engine light came on. Now, the car will start, and cut off after about 2 seconds, and will not drive correctly. I don't know what's wrong

Edit: Seems like this may be my problem, after a search https://honda-tech.com/zero...19051

What wires?
I've never done any modification to the car, or taken anything major apart.

My dad took it to his mechanic today and he said the alternator bracket broke off, and the belt snapped, and there's a bolt wedged in the engine bay, and they're going to have to start taking it apart to get the bolt out.

This is sort of disturbing. Has this happened to anyone else?

Now the car doesn't want to recognize the key chip thing, so I guess we're going to have to get the ecu reflashed, or whatever.

yep, exactly what happened to me. my ECU went dead . something shorted something out and killed the ECU and some of the wiring, cost me $2500 in damages including a new ECU and getting it reflashed by honda.

it sucked, majorly.

It's getting dropped off to the Honda stealership soon. Hopefully it just needs to get the ecu reflashed. How much does that cost, if anyone knows?

It's not even a problem with the motor. Something electrical.

Your wiring may be the cause.Try to check if the connection of Bosch wiring is properly placed or else it could produce sparks which may the case of burning smell.

The car has been at the dealer, I cannot 'check' anything. If they can't eventually fix it I probably will just trade it in for whatever it'll be worth and get an rsx, or another civic. Hopefully they'll have it fixed soon though . Everyone at the dealer is stumped.

told you. this happened to me. they pretty much had to rewire the entire car, check every wire, one by one. after that, had to get the ecu replaced.

took them like a month to finish my car, and $2500. something must've shorted something out causing some wires to melt together, don't know what though.

i know how you're feeling, go for the rsx-s and sell me your rear lip.

used rsx-s you can find for like $13k
