well, i am currently with my stock gsr shifter, since i have a gsr ofcourse.

i also got a mackin short shifter single bend laying around.

should i install it ??
would that be an upgrade ??

because i heard stories about how stock shifter is better sometimes..
but when i try to do a quick shift with my stock shifter.. sometimes it grinds.

grinds might be because of your tranny fluid or maybe its just raiped to much

Sure the short shifter throw is great and short, but in my experience it is always notchy and not as smooth.

nothing beats the feel of an OEM honda tranny with stock shifter....soo smooth its like throwin it a blonde bombshell that just put a whole tube of ky jelly in her

as opposed to a short shifter is like a ***** who has herpies, all bumpy and **** (i would assume haha)

 

just get stock ITR shifter...mint

 

nononono...i have a b&m short shifter and i have absolutely no grinds...short shifters as well as stock shifters can ruin your tranny...think about it...if your going to slam gears your not being gentle on your stuff and it will ruin them...thats why its common for second gear to go out early...and if your tranny grinds with stock it proves my point...ive seen the reverse gear on a v8 tranny go bad because a guy slammed it into reverse as hard as he could thinking he was some kind of racer...

so in conclusion install it if you want...stock is ok and short is ok...its about preference but i love my short stick...you will too once you get used to it...once you go back to stock it feels like your driving a damn semi truck...

Incorrect.

I've had an AutoZone double-bend short shifter on my car for over 150,000 miles now. The transmission has 247,000 miles on it with all original internals, and I've also been running GM Synchromesh Friction Modified fluid for over 100,000 miles. And it shifts like butter, all the time, every time, even in below-freezing temperatures outside. And yes it has been through a number of autocross and drag race events.

User error is what ruins transmissions. Mine will very occasionally grind going into 4th, but that's only when I accidentally shift too fast w/o getting the clutch fully disengaged.

How short is my shifter? The threaded portion is the same as stock. Here's a pic of the shifter throw. This old Razo **** sat lower on the shifter than stock so that's why it looks shorter:


I absolutely love it. Feels great with polyurethane shifter bushings. I absolutely HATE the feel of the stock shifter with rubber bushings. They feel very numb and rubbery when shifting.

Now I don't know if I would recommend this Mackin short shifter. Look for something quality like from Skunk2. I've considered changing mine to one, but I have the sealed bearings in the bottom of the shifter just like the Skunk2, and I've never had any problems, so I see no point in spending $100 to change it at this point.

documentation of this? not saying you're wrong, just never heard this before and would like to read about why this happens, if it is in fact true

i do believe you because i think it's strange that i've never heard anything about this ever and you have like 17000 posts, but i'd just like to see where he's getting his info from: if it's a real source that's just incorrect or if he's pulling it out of his *** which so many people on this site seem to do

 

theres no real proof..it all comes down to the type of short shifter/ which trans/ clutch your using and how you drive/shift.

ex. if you granny shift a short shifter all day long vs. you slam gears at high rpms

ex. how you drive on a daily basis. what trans fluid you have.

most b series trans syncros tend to go bad around/after 100,000miles but doesnt mean every trans w ill go bad. just sayin majority. you might have a short shifter in ur car and not have a single problem but the problems aquire more often with short shifters vs. oem shifters

I have not had any problems with mine either.

When I first got my car @ 16 years old, I thought I'd be a maD faSt shifter and bought the DC short shifter w/ poly bushings.

Fast forward to 7 years later and 60k miles I have had zero problems and still love the small flick required to shift it.

 

well, the previous owner was a woman who bought the car new and drove it 88,000 miles. Then I bought it, put a short shifter in shortly thereafter, and now have 247,000 miles, still on original tranny internals with no problems whatsoever, other than when I mess up and cause it to grind.

Same.

Mine was an older guy and I bought it with 71k and it now has ~130k

I installed a Skunk 2 short shifter on my GSR and I love it!! The only problem I have with it is that when Im on the freeway and I let go of the gas, it makes a ratleling noise. I would like to know why it makes that noise?

It could very well be the plastic ring at the top of the shifter boot. Is yours pressed tight up against the shift **** or does it droop down? You need to remove the console, put a zip-tie on the shifter and pull it tight, then put the console back on. Then pull the zip tie up tight underneath the shift ****.

 

i guess i decided.. i might want to go with a skunk2 short shifter.

also one more question.. what is the different between single bend or dual bend ?

and as u stated.. "double dual bend" ?

 

I have skunk 2 short shifter dual bend with ES bushings. Works great for me.
