Default GSR to Type R rebuild.

Ok my car is at about 80,000 miles on it and I decided to rebuild the enging this summer. I did do a search, but what I'm trying to find out is if it's better to just have my GSR head and manifold port and polished or if I can just buy a Type R manifold and head and bolt it up to my GSR block. I did plan on upgrading to Type R pistons with Manly rods and maybe Type R cams but not sure yet about the cams. And to put a Type R head on a GSR what else I would need besides the head, intake manifold, and throttle body. Any info is greatly appreciated, Thanks.

diffrences are
pistons, cams, mild port and polish, the R manifold won't fit on a gsr head without modification..so just get a skunk2...prolly balance the crankshaft and whole rotating assembly...u'll have more power then an R...but still no lsd..work up the gsr head

Port and polish the head and keep your stock manifold

A good head porter should know what to do if you give them your car's setup. So far, I haven't seen any dyno plots where Type-R head makes a lot more power than a GSR head. So either head is fine IMO.

Everyone is going to tell you something different. Here is my oppinion...sell your gsr head and manifold. Put 00-p73 pistons in your block and keep your gsr rods. Buy an ITR head and manifold. Voila.

Thanks for the input guys, I have a customer that does head work and we do welding for him. And he is going to take care of all the porting and polishing, valves, springs, retainers and stuff for me. Due to the ever powerful dollar, and my lack of it looks like I will be going port and polished GSR head. Thanks again!
