Default Any ITR owners here have (NICE) Daily beaters? Need Opinions..

I'm tired of owning POS daily beaters with over 100,000 miles for the last 2 years so I sold them all. I can't (well don't want to)+(its on collectors insurance) DD my ITR. So now, I am in need of a nice car for everyday daily driving.
ITR owners Need your opinions!
Looking to spend no more than $30K, has to be fast and it has to handle. And NO front wheel drive. NO Hondas/Acuras,
Here are some of my choices:

2001-2003 BMW M3
2000-2001 BMW M5
2002-up Z06
2005-2006 EVO MR
SUV??
I don't know?

Any suggestions?

Oh and I'm down for the NE Caravan to Expo.

European cars = $$$ I'd only ever lease one than hand it back when the warranty is up. I just got rid of an 03 Audi A4 3.0. Trust me on that.

Other ideas:
- Infinity G35 Coupe / 350Z
- Cadillac CTS, CTS-V, SRX
- STI, Legacy
- Saab 9-3

I wouldn't DD a M3, the value drops too drastically with high miles... I'd go with the TL type-S like stated above, or maybe a TSX. What about the new civic Si?

He doesn't want another Honda/Acura apparently...

But if not a Honda/Acura - I'd go with an EVO.
Read some feedbacks on it from previous ITR owners, they say it feels just about the same

If not an EVO then I'd settle with the Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT.
250HP, 250TQ- HID equipped. And, it's quite luxurious

I owned a BMW as a daily thank god for the warrenty. The check engine light would come on at least every other week.

My new daily is an 07 Civic Si. I did not like the car much because the dashboard is ugly as sin but fun car that will hold its resale value higher than any other car in its class.

I say you buy the EVO. I would have gone that route but extra $10k and with the R in the garage still was not going to cut it with the wife

I had the same dillema and ended up with a 2005 BMW 545i Sport. Went that route for corporate reasons.

I, PERSONALLY, would not buy an 00-01 M5 or 01-03 M3 as they are now out of warranty. My good friend owns an 03 M5 and our mutual BMW service advisor stated that a GOOD majority of the E39 M5's have CONSTANT issues with o2 sensors going back amongst other things. 01-03 M3 I wouldn't go as those are the years that they recalled TWICE for the rod bearing issue. I know they have 6yr/100k drivetrain warranties, but being a previous owner of TWO e46's, I can say they tend to have random reliablility issues with the sunroof shade going off-track ($300+ fix), the HID's going out ($400+ fix), door seals going bad, power window actuators going out, the factory cd player eject system failing... The list goes on. If it weren't for the warranty, I'd totally hate owning one. But, you've got to understand, nothing is perfect. I tend to buy used (1 year old), then sell once there is about a year left of warranty so I can still sell the car for a good dollar amount.

I guess you've got to ask yourself, which car fits YOUR lifestyle best?

Good luck.

I had an EK3 sedan DD but recently bought a 1998 Nissan Primera GT (SR20DE motor) Its a special edition model with full leather interior and chromaflair paint, one of only 200 ever made to celebrate nissans winning of the BTCC in 97/98. The paint called Mystic Green flips from green to purple to bronze/gold depending on the angle you look at it and lighting conditions.

Funny this came up....

Personally, I have the track ***** (my ITR) and an S2K. I'm getting rid of the S now, kinda impulsive on that one and doesn't fit the daily lifestyle for me. To small of a car but would make an excellant second car.

Now I'm faced with a decision. I really want another DD ITR, but the theft, headache and all that crap is sorta steering me away.

So far I have test driven a 3 series BMW (bleh) 05 STI (Was impressed, a lot actually) Now I have to test drive an Audi S4, M3/5, G35 and a few others. I'm leaning more lux/sport but I would suggest you really look into whatever car you decide. Read up on reviews, talk to current owners and find out all the info you can before you buy.

I could buy a 00 vette with 30k on it for 18,000 but stayed away from that due to high insurance costs.

GL with your search, BTW the S is for sale.

its a saloon, not a sedan, been hanging around with the foreigners too much

and its only just clicked, you've got non-Irish plates on that Primera, how come?

The biggest thing you'll need to think about is $$ (obviously) unless you have an abundance of it then it doesn't matter. If you still want to devote most of your time, energy, and $$'s on the R then I would buy a car that is still within its factory warranty.

If the BMW if out of warranty it is going to be costly to maintain properly, unless you do the wrenching yourself or get labor discounts at a shop. Like someone said above not all cars are perfect but BMW's definetly need some love and attention with maintenance especially with certain "wear" items. If you do decide to buy one just make sure it has a good service history and have a PPI done at a local dealer.

I dont know much about Corvette Z06 but I would have to believe like Dave said, that the insurance is really costly. I guess in my mind I wouldn't see a Corvetter as a daily driver (two seats, insurance, gas)

The 06' Evo would still have a factory warranty and low mileage with great bang for the buck performance, it has seating for at least 4 (unless you roll with big girls ) and a trunk. I would think that would be your best bet for a high performance daily driver

Legacy GT is what comes to mind...model year clearance is the best time to pick one up...i was toying around last year and could have gotten one at 21k brand new instead of i think it was 26k...

Kinda of in the same boat.... I am selling my S2K this week to Carmax and will probably look for a 4 door, cheap, fun, decent gas mileage daily/family car.... If I can find a GSR Sedan with about 80K miles and no mods to light mods that would be golden.

For me a daily has to be:
1. Affordable in initial cost as well as maintenance = therefore removes most German cars
2. Reliable at every startup, limited issues = therefore removes some American & German cars
3. Cheap = removes many cars newer than 2003
4. Practical = 4 doors, good gas mileage
5. Fun = has to come in manual and feel spirited but not necessarily really fast

The only cars that fits the above seem to be Integra, Civic, Protege, G20's, Impreza.

Get an SUV of some kind. Had a 99 RX300 for 5 years and it came in handy when hauling stuff for your car as well as going to home depot to pick things up. Recently traded the RX300 for a 07 RDX. Car is a lot of fun to daily drive and is roomy. Used it to transport a front end, so it is actually functional as an SUV.

I know this is going against what the OP is looking for... But, I picked up a 94 accord 4dr auto for 1800 bucks. I couldnt be more happy with it, its getting ~30mpg, its comfy, and IMO the better looking accord. I could afford to go out and buy a 30-40k car, but I'm perfectly content with rocking my 13 year old, 165k, perfectly reliable, Honda Accord.

I drive 90+ miles a day to and from work, in one of the busiest/high traffic areas in the country, thats why I have an auto. And I'm lazy.

My wife as a '99 Accord 145K miles. We love it. Comfortable, great gas mileage, looks and feel new, and should last another 60-80K miles easy.

$1600 geezer FTW

IMO a dd should be a vehicle that you simply are not concerned with the following:

1) Theft
2) Dings, Dents, Paint
3) Eating/Smoking/Drinking
4) Different types of harsh weather
5) Making nakey in

I take very good care of my dd, however i do not worry about any of the things listed above. It is next to impossible to treat a car with exceptional care and the public/nature do the same.

I suppose if i had the money i would want a nicer dd, but i love what i have and can't really see myself ever driving an expensive dd.
