Default head gasket

i'm doing a head swap.. i have a 2000 gsr motor and swappin the head to a type-r head.. would it make any big different? would it pass smog still? which gasket should i use n brand name wise and thickens etc? is the GSR and type-r head gasket the same??

You gonna use the ITR cam's as well?
And I'll assume you knwo you can't use the GSR intake manifold or the GSR intake tubing?
And you'll have to get tuned and what not as well.

And yes, if you do the above things (can't just upgrade one part, you have to upgrade the PACKAGE) you'll see a nice bump in power. Not ITR power, since you don't have the compression ratio, but a good bump none-the-less.

How much you giving for the ITR head?

ANd the ITR/GSR/b16 head gaskets are all the same

yeah..i'm changing the whole package..from intake mainfold, head block, cams, etc..basicaly i'm swappin the ITR top onto my motor... so i can use any b-series gasket then?? my friend was telling me there's a different?? any info will help..thanks again

From what I've been told, you can use either the b16a, b18c, or b18c5 headgasket. They're all pretty much interchangeable.

yes that is right, all vtec head gaskets are interchangeable

just go to the auto parts store and purchase an oem replacement, and if you opt for the entire gasket kit for the head then be sure to purchase an itr or b16 gasket kit

yeah..i called a few performance shop and they told me the same too.. thanks for the info.. i'm doing this swap on sunday..can't wait..i'll keep u guys up date with pics if i remember..

oohh do you guys know any good brand name head gasket? or should i just use OEM gasket? what about the thickens of the gasket(one layer or 3 layers)??

i ususally get the ones made by fel-pro lol

because they are cheap and reliable and always in stock at atleast one auto parts store in town

anyone have a link about how to make an oem 3 layer a 1 layer? or two layer?

do you take out the center for the two layer?

if I wanted just a one layer, which layer would i use? top mid or bottom?
