Default How to avoid a spun bearing?

Ok recently Ive been reading quite a few people on here that have spun bearings due to low oil...

Yesterday I was driving on the highway... dropped it into second as I was gettting on the entrance ramp and around 6-6.5K it made this aweful bogging sound... almost like i was bouncing off the rev limiter...

so today I check my oil and it was low... prolly a quart and a half low...

so i just put in fresh oil even though it does need an oil change in a few hundred miles...

The CEL light didnt come on nor did the low oil light...

What can I do to prevent a spun bearing?

Have I caused any damage to my car?

Should I replace the bearings before they go bad or is that just a waste?

Please any comments will be greatly appreciated... TIA...

first of all, the oil light will come on when you have practically no oil left, its basically a "you're screwed light". i'd say when you do get your oil change in a couple hundred miles, drain the oil and pull the pan, check the oil for metal and check out everything under the pan. spun bearings are a PITA

when the car 'bogged'...how much fuel did you have in your tank?
How many miles on your engine?

To to on the safe side, I'd probably make an overall look at your engine and make sure you have no oil leaking from any of the gaskets(cam cap/oil pan etc...)
If you have a bit of miles on your engine, I'd probably even look into getting an GSR/ITR oil pump which has the most flowing oil per min available factory from the b-series line.

Make sure you do your oil changed on check and if your low on oil, fill it up
get a magnetic oil drain plug and make sure you have no metal shavings in your oil and get all the debris

Well, I woudlnt if you do't have any oil in the engine...

But as long as you have oil, yoru fine.

ANd how to avoid a spun bearing: Keep oil in yoru engine and don't over-rev it.

Other than that, your OK.

99% says the bogging happened due to being low on gas and with you going on the ramp from/on the highway, that would cause the gas to splash inside your tank and giving the pump a hell of a time sucking in the fuel.

The bogging wouldn't be caused by lack of oil, but more towards the low gas that you had.
