Default ***96 ek to 99 si gauge cluster help***

so i just bought a 99-00 si gauge cluster for my 96 civic ex and its weird the speedo needle would randomly bounce around while i was driving. it would be fine one sec then outta no where bounce down to 0 as if i was not moving. my old ex cluster did nothing like that. am i wrong that si cluster should juss plug and play??

any ideas?

I have a 97 civic with an si cluster, and mine does the same thing. It has happened 3 times that i am aware of, and it happens just long enough for it to catch my attention. I have had my car for 2 weeks and have had to get some more important work done first (susp, brakes) but now i am going to look into this problem. If i find out anything I will let you know.

you might want to check one of your fuses under the dash(forgot whichone i think its the vehicle speedometer?). I had the same problem jumping around randomly. Then i checked over all of them and the previous owner had a fuse that was a 20 but actually i need a 10 in that place. after that it was fine.

I don't know how to tell you to fix it, but I have a '97 with an SI cluster and never had a problem like that, and you shouldn't either. You were right in assuming that it's PnP.

ummmm, maybe, just maybe, a bad cluster. Just a thought.

My 95 EX coupe's origianl cluster did the same thing. It got progressively worse over time until it just quit working altogether. Pitched that cluster and swapped in an LX cluster, problem solved.

Swap your EX cluster back in. If it's fine then that Si cluster is...... ok bad joke...... cluster fucked.

but I bet you don't know exactly what has happened to that cluster since the last time you've been in his car and even then, crap can randomly screw up. My original cluster in the 95 worked fine for a while then it just up outta nowhere startin screwin up.

Still the key word in my previous post is MAYBE.

PS why did he take this cluster out?

Ahh, I'd get an EK9 cluster for my hatch but I don't feal like convertin Kilometers to miles. Plus I'm goin SiR route with my hatch instead of Type R. So a Canadian SiR cluster or a USDM Si cluster would be more fitting.
