It's normal for an engine to idle high while it is warming up, then once it warms to normal operating temp, the idle drops.

If you are talking about the idle surging quickly between high and low rpm, then you probably either have a vacuum problem or a cooling problem. On all of my Hondas, I've solved the surging idle either by fixing a vacuum leak, or fixing the cooling system.

im going to take carb cleaner and spray around the engine and see if i have a leak.but yes high rev then low rev its not normal......it revs high then low kinda fast but it does it for about ten 15 min untill the temp hits right above the first mark and the v-tec dont kick in till it warms up to.

if it surges then you have a prob like bubblegum said. if you first start the car and it stays around 2000rpm then 10 min later its at 1000rpm thats fine. if it goes up and down you have a prob. what exactly is it doing.
