it depends, i am guessing since ur going to trash the GSR engine, something is wrong with it, becuz no person in their right mind would go from gsr to b20. The gsr engine is pretty expensive so a replacement would take a lil bank so i guess a b20 or a ls would suffice. The question u have to ask yourself though is.. do you want to boost or do u not want to boost. If you want to boost on a stock block a b20 is NOT the way to go unless you plan on building it with SLEEVES. not any block gaurd crap. A LS would be a better decision.
On the other hand, if you arent planning to boost then a b20 would be a good motor. My friend has a b20z2 with a b16 head, and it feels really good to drive especially daily driving. I would have to say its pretty beasty. I also have a b20, but a b20b4, which has a lower compression and less hp than the b20z. for non vtec motors, they get up and go.
if i was u, i would try to find a b20z4. they have more torque and more hp. and i think they have a compression of 9:1.
In order to do the Vtec head conversion on either a ls or b20 the easiest way u could do it would be to buy the golden eagle conversion kit. it comes with everything u need to make the conversion. As of heads, i would go with either a b16 or gsr unless u can afford to buy a type r head. actually if ur head is good on your car then u could put ur head on. Then on to a ecu.. u need a p28 and it would be a good thing to try to get the engine tuned so its running perfectly. Also forgot to mention that the LS block u can put almost any b - series block internals into it, but the b20 series engines you can only put b20 internals in the block. if you have any more questions or concerns i would go to
http://www.b20vtec.com that's just my 2 cents i hope i was some kind of help

I have a b20b4 with stock rods, on gsr pistons, with a gsr head thats ported and polished, and 5 angeld, with Ti lifters and retainers. Its a great daily driver, it has lots of tq so cornering is fun in it. The next thing though would be some axles though. If you do an lsvtec or crvtec dont cheap out on the headgasket and upgrade to arp studs and you'll have a great long lasting engine. esp of you go with all stock head and block, good luck.

yeah gary is right. anyways, the larger the displacement and longer stroke of the B20 make it a great motor for torque and boost. but its not a high RPM bottom end, such as the B16 or the LS. Its still a very good motor to boost, super charge is ideal though.

All in all, just depends what kind of power we're talking here. Full build? Turbo? Super Charge? Stock? Do you want to run high RPMs? Where do in the power band do you want to make the most power etc.

Give us some info, we'll help you out.

man this thread has turn upside down, all u need is a vtec kit, a b20 head gasket, its always good to change you oil pump and water pump to vtec..your desired tranny..am rolling on a b20b with a gsr head and tranny stock and it runs fine..
