from what i was told by my tuner today ( who drives a lude) you not going to go off psi or hp during the tune, your going to tune to what your motor likes the best. that could be 4 psi or 12 psi, just depends on the motor. i believe this guy cuz i have known him for about 5 years now and he has been tuning for about 10 and hasnt blown a motor yet.

Ha! how can you tell what a given motor "likes" or doesn't like?! Yeah, it'll depend a bit on how efficient the turbo is, a smaller (quicker spooling but less efficient) turbo will put out less power at the same PSI of intake charge. Speaking of which.... you're probably going to really reach a power/torque limit on a stock block, and not necessarily a PSI limit. I ran a stock motor at 10 PSI for a while, the piston ringlands let go after a while.

I don't know who your tuner is, but if he hasn't tuned a motor that's blown up, he must not have tuned many motors. Motors blow up, especially when you boost them.

I ran my Prelude w/ Drag Turbo Kit and 550cc injectors and 8-9 psi of boost fine for a year and half before I dropped a valve and lost compression. On a lower mileage engine, I would have been fine for YEARS i think.

it talks to you. if you are running good tunable ecu then you will get lots and lots of information about what the motor likes or dislikes. if the motor detonates it obviously doesnt like it. maybe im not explaining it correctly but there is no point to say stop at 7 psi when the motor will easily take 10 with no problem. ya the unthinkable can happen under boost, hell it can happen without boost.

he hasnt blown a motor on the dyno in 10 years, he is actually referred as the best tuner in colorado by about every shop in colorado.

I understand that you can read what the gauges tell you but you make it sound like once the motor "likes" 4 psi that that's all it can ever have. That's bullshit. As long as there are no counts of knock on the gauge you can turn up the boost. You see knock, you pull timing, no knock, advance timing, turn up the boost. the problem is that honda engines were never intended to be turboed, and the high compression typically found in honda engines is the biggest indication of this. This being said (and to answer the post) your **** is gonna break eventually. If you are planning on daily driving a turbo honda with stock internals then your best friend in the world is a good tune. Even with a tune your piston rings will go out, you could blow a head gasket, your valves weren't designed to handle the extra heat so they'll break down, and your rods can only take so much. This is strictly my opinion, but the most i would run and consider it "safe" (reliable) would be 7 psi, and i know you're thinking it's not very much compared to a stock DSM that runs 12 psi (8.3; 1 CR), but you have to remember that the compression ratio in an h22 is 10:1, so even on a weak little 7 psi (vagina boost) it's going to be pretty quick and really fun to drive.

LOL. that cracks me up. I ran 8lbs on my h23 turbo daily driven, and weekend beatings for about 3 or 4 months, before i parted it out to sell it. the motor had almost 200,000 miles on it, and it is still running like a champ to this day.
