Default psi question.

i've been asking around and whatnot. . . and yes, i've been researching.

i was just wondering if 8 psi daily was too high of boost to use on a stock gsr motor (450 injectors, 255 fuel pump . . . )

i asked a bunch of people, and it seems to me that a lot of people on the internet say it's okay, but my friends tell me that the compression (10.5:1 i believe for the stock motor) is too high to boost that high for daily.

what do you guys think?

You are fine with 8 psi, just get a good tune on it. ALso remember to do the maintenance on the motor that you should and you will be fine.

psi doesnt kill motor that just a number that relates to horsepower thats what kills motors

stock motors are hp limited not by psi
**** you can put a gt42 on your stock gsr and probably make 400whp on 8psi. or you can run a tiny t25 and make less than 200hp on 8psi

yup, 8psi on my custom turbo/b18c made 317whp @ 8 psi, lol. 100% stock internals. Very efficient setup as i had intended it to be upon putting it together.

- Ls1 Fd3s for the record, too lazy to sign outa friends SN...

Oh and @ 10psi i made 349whp, in which i daily'd the snot outa it, drove it to TX from IL and such. Best damn car i had, so reliable, never a problem, she will be missed...

Just don't drive as fast as you can everywhere and try and race everyone and that will help

thanks guys

yeah i forgot to say, a lot of people also said it was in the tune that mattered. tuning is what makes or breaks the car, i guess

but in the long run, should i get the lowering comp pistons? or would it just be a waste of money?

btw, i forgot to mention it was an 18g.

maintenance meaning oil changes, replacing coolant, etc? or is there something else i need to know? O_o

also, since i have the 18g, at what psi should i start building the bottom end so i'm not blowing my ****? i mean, yeah of course i'm not always going to be driving hard, but maybe i'll just open throttle just to expletive around maybe a few times a month.

thanks

My friend has a b16, with the jdm pistons, suppose to be around your compression i believe. Either way, 10 psi, beaten to hell. Not just once in a while, if he's driving it, its being used. Fuel management, and a proper tune will go along ways. I don't remember the typical hp levels to start builing, but if you search you can find a lot of setups that are stock. I personaly think you could do 12-15, not nearly as reliable of course..... I do 15 psi on my stock D series, so have at it.

lol 15? that's crazy.

wow. i hope my local shop (one6) does great tuning. i can't afford to blow my motor. i just replaced my trans / clutch like 5 months ago. cost me a good 1,600 for both.

anyway. i'm still looking to get a boost controller, boost gauge, and hondata. since i won't be needing the pistons, i think i'm going to have the money to put all this **** in sooner than i think

anyway, i think i'm going to stick with 8 psi, and later on upgrade the bottom end so i can do maybe 10-12 reliably. i'm so excited.

hey again.

i think the 18g has an internal wastegate (couldn't find anywhere that stated this) but this is what i was told .

now, i've been asking around and doing some research, and more often than not, i've come across setups with an external wastegate (tial 38mm is the most common from my searches).

does this mean anything? are external wastegates really better? i read somewhere that it was more efficient with a external wastegate, because you can actually set the psi on it (or something like that) so it regulates the boost as well, and i just wasn't too sure on whether or not the internal wastegate does that, being that it's internal.

thanks

yeah pretty sure you wanna get an external wastegate...then you can run a spring and have that set the proper amount of boost

and yeah...i wouldn't go to one6 for tuning...that place just rips people off like crazy...mark is a good guy and all..but he's out for the $...my buddy has about 15K into a H22 Ek and its still slow...they said they would tune it...took his hondata and had it for 3 weeks...never socketed anything...never even began to work on his ecu....we went to king motorsports and they pulled like 180whp and 150trq out of a bolt on h22 with hondata which is okay...but...go to the Whip Factory....much much more repitiable tuner in the area..there the ones who did ls1fd3s tuning...and his **** was reliable as hell...

moral of story..

one6<whip factory...

when i was going to boost a stock b16 i was going with a safe conservative ammount of psi/power

my tuner said he could run around 10psi and get into the high 200s whp with it 250+ which isnt bad

15psi would definitly be unsafe unless you have a great deal of tuning but with high boost and high compression detonation becomes a issue to look out for..

low compression piston is a must have in any boosted setup

If I had a penny for everytime someone has to answer a post with this correct response, I would be a millionaire.

well . . if the kit is installed, and it isn't tuned, how am i going to run it? wouldn't it be bad, due to it possibly being too lean / rich? what about speedquest? do you know anything about them? i've heard nothing but good about whip factory, but that's a 3 hr drive to get there.

mark is going to put on my kit, all the gauges, and the hondata into my ecu. he said it'll be anywhere from 600+ . i don't know many places around my area (within a 1.5 hr dr) that tunes, because i was never really thinking about that, until now.
