Blown head gasket?
I put a new LS head gasket last week when I did my LS/Vtec coverssion. Im using b16 head bolts wich are a bit shorter than gsr head bolts. I read on h-t that the shorter head bolt tend to cause the head gasket to blow easy. Is this true? Im getting quite a bit of whitish smoke when I get on it hard, could it be coolant burning? I dont think Im burning oil, I have checked my plugs many times, and they are as dry as could be.
Also, I would loose compression if I blew my head gasket, right? Would loosing copression cause Vtec not to cross over as hard? When I first got it running, Vtec kicked in pretty hard, and now it doesn't seem to as hard, and my friend said he couldn't even hear vtec when we were at the strip saturday.
If I do replace my head gasket, I will get GSR head bolts, and *I think* I'll use the Cometic .025 head gasket ment for the b18a/b block w/Vtec head. Does anyone know what is different between the regular LS cometic head gasket and the one ment for LS/Vtec?
Thanks for any help!
