blown 2sk motor!
ok so heres the story
i have a friend who worked really hard for fema during the hurricane craze for about 9 months
he saved up enough money and bought him self a 01 ap1 with only 20k mile on it for a really good price
i always told my friend that the fema job wasnt going to last him forever and that he purchased a car that he couldnt afford
well to make things short he let one of his coworkers drive it , while he was driving he was in 6th gear and he decided to downshift to 4th but instead went into 2nd and BAMM!!!
his coworker tol him he didnt have any money and to top it off he lost his job
his car has been sitting in his backyard for about 2 months now , hes jobless and has no idea if the motor is blown , fixable , we are lost
he brought the car to honda and they told him to buy a new motor which is about 4500
i think he can probably fix the motor and build it with better parts with that money but idk lol
so my Q is if anyone here can help me out here
what do yall think might of broke?
any help would help
thanks

yeah most likely the head suffered the most from the low down shift at such high rpm, so the valves could be bent, but to know for sure it will have to be opened up and checked throughly but that could be expensive at good honda specialist shop, I wouldn't trust your average mechanic with it. if you're friend wants to sell it in the long run I'd buy, I'm looking to buy a normal running sk2, but wouldn't hurt to play around with a non running one.
This has happened to me at the track, where I traded cars with someone for hot lapping. Missed shift and a blown motor. Luckily, the driver wrote a check for everything.
I won't lecture anyone about lending cars, because I got an earful myself. Suffice to say, don't ever let anyone drive your car unless they car write a check for the whole thing on the spot. Qualify the driver financially as well as for skill.
Having said that, the first thing to do is starting writing everything down... names, dates, everything.
Second, ask the driver who blew your engine for money, all of it. A full rebuild of an F20C from a deal is going to be about $9500, including a new head, valvetrain, block, and dealer labor. Pull the head off to make sure, but I'm pretty sure you will find a dropped valve that chewed up the head, valvetrain, and the guides fell into the cylinder and powdered into shrapnel, scoring the snot out of the un-borable sleeves. Get a quote from a trusted shop or a dealer, and don't take the cheap routes (yet). Don't forget about the transmission and diff.
If he doesn't agree to pay for his mistake (it doesn't matter if he has a job or not: he might borrow the money from friends, family, or a bank, it's really not your problem), then file a lawsuit. You should be able to win easily, if you keep accurate notes about everything. If he doesn't have the money, well he will make it eventually and you will get it all someday. Keep the law on your side, and don't do anything stupid like threaten him with a baseball bat. Keep it civil and you will win in court.
Once you have a court win, you can do whatever you want because you have all the control. If you want to settle with him for $3K and buy a used motor and install it yourself, you can do that. If you want a new motor from the dealer, you can do that too. Either way, you'll get the money back if you want it.
I didn't have to go through any of this, but you better believe I did my homework and had a plan.
Personally, I wasn't going to sue. I was willing to take the responsibility myself, but the other driver did the right thing.

I think it's called the shifter "Deathgrip".

if i were your friend i wouls shoot someone for blowing an s2k motor. that really sux. it's probably the ring lands that are blown. bent valves make a very distinct sound. it happened in my friends gsr when he snapped his timing belt. it made a baffle, kind of like the STI sound.
