Default Strange sound from the front end...

Recently my '93 Prelude Vtec started making a strange sound. I've determined the sound is coming from the front end of the car (yes,I'm a genius ). Are any of you familiar with BMX bikes? Well if you are, the sound is almost exactly the same as the sound produced when the bike is "free-wheeling" or just coasting, or also similar to the sound when you pedal backwards. It's a clicking sound. So, originally I thought it was an axle, however, the times at which the sound occurs have me second guessing myself. **Say I'm cruising in third gear at 3,500, there is no clicking sound at all, but, if I lift off the gas to decelerate the sound occurs for roughly 10 seconds. Now this is the weird part, regardless of what I do, be it step on the clutch, hit the brakes, get back on the gas, the sound continues for the same 10 seconds it would have had I done nothing. It's not the typical popping sound of an axle, I've done the tight radius circles on the gas in each direction to check for popping; nothing. I checked my cv boots; nothing. So what do you guys think it could be? For those of you not familiar with the sound of free-wheeling I'll link up a video. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks in advance

-Chris

**I just wanted to mention that the gear and the RPM don't make a difference, the 3rd gear 3,500 thing was just an example. Also, accelertion, be it hard or normal, makes no clicky sound...

EDIT:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YrWfcWPMkA From 00:00 till about 00:15 you can hear the exact sound I'm talking about

Ok, just jack it up and check for play right? Like, tug on the wheel? The funny thing is, even if I come to a complete stop, the sound continues for the same amount of time...do you guys still think wheel bearing? If it is, thank God the front bearings are separate from the hub

I follow your train of though on the throw out bearing and pilot bearing but it seems like if it were one of those that the noise would be affected when he hits the clutch or accelerates.

Just as an off the wall suggestion/question: does having the fan/AC on/off affect it at all. Or have you looked around the fans to make sure nothing is getting clipped that maybe the engine noise is drounding out while your on the gas but letting you hear when you let off of it?

just throwing out ideas, good luck.

Does the sound increase/decrease pitch when you let off the gas as if something that is rotating is slowing down?

Is everything clear of the fan??

I cant think of anything else off hand that rotates indepenent of the crankshaft that would continue to make the sound even when the driveleine is disconnected. But this wouldnt make sense if the sound ONLY happens when you let off the gas and it happens EVERY TIME you let off the gas.

Yep it was something in/near the fan. It's dark as hell right now and I couldn't see anything with a flashlight, but when I spun it by hand I got clicks, obviosuly a lot slower then when the engine is turning it, but clicks none the less. Thanks for all the answers, you guys just saved me alot of money in parts, time in labor, and headaches

It's just odd that you'd only notice it when letting off the gas. The ound of the motor/intake probably drowned out the sound that was there anyway.
