Default Lowering 2006 Civic (4DR)

Hey everyone. I'm looking into getting some new rims for my car and at the same time lowering it as well. I'm going to be getting 17" wheels, and want to know if getting larger rims will cause me to not be able to lower it as far as I would like. Also, I'm trying to decide between getting H&R Sports Springs or the HFP Sport Suspension. Both claim to lower the car over 1", but I'm wondering if getting one over the other will provide a noticeable difference in handling. The HFP Suspension costs quite a bit more, $370 to be exact, so I am curious as to whether or not I should consider spending the extra money. Any help is greatly appreciated!
