Timing belt
So im thinking i need to chang my timing belt. I bought my car with 137,000 miles on it last october. And now it has 147,000. And i have no clue if the timing belt was ever changed by the previous owners. I do kno the car was a company car before i got it. So is there any way to tell if the belt was changed? Like by looking at the belt. Or any way to tell if the belt needs to be changed?
The only real way to tell if you need to replace the belt is if you see cracks in it, but by then it's probably about ready to break. I'd go ahead and change it as a precaution, along with your cam and crank seals, and maybe a new water pump.
if there are cracks present they will be in the corners of the teeth. But if it gets that far it's not long til it snaps. Best is to replace it at the recommended intervals.
Depending on what year/model/motor you have, I did a write-up on how to replace the timing belt/timing balancer belt/water pump. You can find the link in the Accord FAQ in the engine section.
