Default Type R worth owning?

I've been thinking about buying a Type R to daily drive but giving the history of stolen Honda's in the area it makes me nervous. Granted I live in the suburbs 40mins south of Cleveland out of most trouble but trouble finds you in the right places. If I would to buy one what would you guys suggest on installing to make it more theft deterant? Just want some input on what you guys think.

thanks

Garage. Most R's are stollen from the owners residence. A garage will force the thief to make a daytime attempt at your place of work, which hopefully is busy and/or has security.

I daily drove my ITR for a while back in the day without any attempts on my caR's life.

If you are set on DD'ing an ITR, layer security, autolocks, kills switches...etc, plus make sure the car is insured for theft at a value you are willing to pay for. What insurance companies think an ITR is worth, is almost always well below market value.

However, if you are looking for a fun daily driver and like the characteristics of the ITR, I would encourage you to test a new Civic Si. They don't have the soul of an ITR, but they are the next best thing, and they don't attract the unwanted attention an ITR does.

Well I got a really good alarm on my car with a hidden kill switch. I keep my ITR in a garage with a crazy lock system. I also got lojack put in the car.

I heard about this chip thats the size of a small round pill that you can install anywhere on the car and you can color code it to be more hidden and when its stollen they know where it is at all time instantly.

If you have to ask "Is it worth owning" then the answer is more than likely 'NO'

If you don't have a garage then don't even think about owning one.

ps. layered security is multiple means of security.... Alarm, fuel cut off, GPS, Blackjax, etc...

ah, the age old question. It's a tough one. The answer is obviously yes, but it's what and how to secure it if your going to DD one that should be questioned. Personally, I've asked this question and been pondering it for quite some time and still can't decide if I want to get one and DD it and track it, or cut back the risk and massive security necessary and just track it with no DDing what-so-ever. I prefer the latter, but that's just me since it's a rare car and it's a purpose built race car, hard to come-by especially clean and un-raped therefore that's my take. Garage it for special occasions. Work on it of-course, but only once you've tracked it to see what needs to be improved, if anything. That's the case of a life-long type-r owner in my eyes. If you don't think your going to keep it, or just can't keep it, I wouldn't touch it or add ANY modifications to it because they're pretty good as is and the more you do to it, the lower the resale value no matter what with these particular cars.

Is it worth not being able to drive your car to the movies or mall? Is it worth every fanboy out there revving there engine at you or trying to have an impromptu race? Is it worth the rediculous insurance rates? Is it worth... well you see where I'm going. However, remember one thing... Your in the Type-R forum. Your asking a bunch of guys (and gals) that have answered your question by default.

Depending on where you live. It's not how it will be stolen, but when. A matter of time where I live, so honestly, I can't DD one, it's just not an option for me, I need a POS to DD in.

You know, I've driven mine all over the place. Late night movies, no garage, daily driven for 6 years and almost 120k miles. I have insurance, so I don't worry about it getting stolen. If you don't drive it anywhere, the thieves have already won, you might as well let them get it.

Get it, enjoy it, and make sure you have full coverage.

I had a friend that had an 00 PY ITR that lived near Cleveland and he daily drove it for probably 4 straight years. As far as I know no one ever tried to break into it or steal it. The car was kind of bad luck from the beginning though. He got hit pretty hard 2 weeks after he got it and they did a shitty job re-painting it. I don't know how but he kept the car really clean through our crappy weathers. His engine bay looked like it was stored winters when he finally traded it in. How bad is the insurance on these things? I know Acura's are genually more expensive but whats the different between say a Integra GS/LS, GSR, and Type R?

The insurance isn't too unreasonable... I'm only 24 and I end up paying like 80 a month for it..... I do know when I was about to buy a 2005 M3 it would have been cheaper...... insurance that is. haha.

Cleveland is not a Honda hot-bed historically, but you can never be too cautious. Although I have heard that Akron has more of a problem with Honda theft than the Cleveland metro area. In Cleveland, you'd have to worry about theft 100 times more if you drove a lifted Donk Cutlass on tw3nTy Fo3z!

But if your looking for an enjoyable daily driver in the subcompact performance genre, there are much more practical choices out there that offer just as much driving enjoyment as the ITR, without the cult following and theft paranoia concerns.

lol. Don't think about getting one unless you can garage it when parked over night. Thieves might not steal it with theft preventive devices, but they will try. Every attempt will leave you with broken glass, jimmied hoods/doors. Most thieves are happy just taking the spoiler.

If you have garage access, go for it.

Only thing i can think of is parking a car behind it so they would have to move another car to move it. Not sure my dad (I live at home still) would let me keep it in a garage. I did that for about 5 years and well...I'm getting too old to steel the garage room anymore. The thing that really draws my attention to the ITRs are that they don't lose their value real fast. If I bought a RSX or new Si I know they wouldn't be worth too much in a few years where the ITR might even be worth the same if I go to sell it.
