replaced oil pump, small problem
in my 92 si i replaced the oil pump, one problem though, the gear (to the right of the crank pulley) doesn't rotate easily anymore...the gear with another gear behind it once you take it out...my friend said the balancer shaft bearings might be seated wrong cause iwas turning it wrong or soemthing when it was off...he says either A) when we start the motor it'll free up and spin easily again or B) the engine will lock up...i was wondering what should I dO? i'm scared to start it now, should i replace the balancer or what? like i said the gear still turns but not as easy as it used to turn by hand...
don't crank it untill you hear otherwise. i think you did a no-no my friend. did you move your crank at all or any of your pullies off TDC whilst in the process?
i had to change my oil pump, so yea all pullies had to come off , the timing is right, if thats what you are worried about...i didnt move the crank while the pullies were off, there was no way i could have moved the crank my bottom end wasn't torn down completely

Pull that gear cover off and see if the shaft itself spins freely and if the pulley spins freely. If they do, and it gets hard to turn when assembled. then the gear clearance is probably off from the new oil pump.

i dont see how it could possibly be harder to turn. id just take off that outer cover and make sure everything is ok in there and if it is, start it up. theres really no way to 'seat' the bearings wrong cuz theyre planted in place. i bet the only problem will be the balancer shafts wont be timed right, which will just give you a little more vibration and thats it. i seriuosly doubt your motor will lock up
