Jesus what's up with all the uber intelligent posts lately????
Turbo charging a stock B16 is perfectly fine and can take 300+whp fine all day long on 93 octane as long as you aren't a cheap *** and buy good parts. Especially the tune.

You guys say you have to use good parts and not be a cheap ***. Do you mean buying a expensive turbo kit? or lowering the compression to run more boost? I'm curious to know what you mean by using good parts.
Good turbo kit, it doesn't have to be expensive, just stay away from ebay lol.
Peakboost and full race and the kings of price but also quality. You can piece one together here though out of the classifieds for a good price and still get good quality parts.
Lowering the compression isn't needed, it just needs a good tune and it will live a long time. I have a friend with 60k turbo miles on a stock internal B16 and he beats the crap out of it on 12 lbs. No problems and still on a stock HG.

turbo FTW. Really there are only three parts that have to be reliable on a turbo, but not necessarily expensive. Manifold, wastegate, and a turbo that is not beatin up, really doesn't have to be new, only in working order I suppose. Manifold just needs to not crack and have a good wastegate placement. Wastegate just needs to be a Tial, and no if and, or but about it.
Everything else...just make sure your pipes aren't leaking, you have enough fuel management, and a tuner who knows a thing or two about timing, boost, RPM, and of course A/F ratios. There is such a thing as budget builds, which can be just as successful as the expensive builds atleast when setting up for the street.
