why would you want to run your motor with the lower timing cover off. is this something for just pure looks? also everytime you would want to check your ign timing you would have to pop the crank pully off, and put the cover back on... someone please sk00l me...

You dont, i really hope those guys are doing what im doing and thats making sure everythings TDC. Then they put the timing cover on. You never keep it off unless maybe your running an external oil pump that doesnt allow for it. Even then

lot of people like to show off there aftermarket camgears and also its more convenient to have it adjusted, thus leaving off the upper timing cover.

leaving the bottom one still on would be dangerous, just in case somthing falls in and gets caught in that lower timing cover... ex. a bolt, screw. so the lower cover also comes off.

very dangerous fo sho. but the covers are soooo ugly. but for me function over form....at least on my lower cover, its still on. the upper ones off though.

 

dont you think that dangerous? if somthing happens to fall in there while your working on you engine and you dont know it. it will just get bounced around in the lower timing cover until it breaks somthing or ripps one of the belts.

i say if the upper covers off, minus well leave the bottom one off also. that way nothing can get caught in there.

o my.. i might as well run with no valve cover...

ugly or not they COVER...

thats actually a pretty good idea. lol

 

also turbo or mani might melt it.. its happened b4

 

those motors arnt complete....they are still working on it test fitting everything. Which explians why the crank pulley isnt on any of them.

haha i didnt even notice that...but i figured they werent complete...thus why they werent in the engine bay yet.

 

no i've seen cars with motors installed and didn't have the lower cover installed.
