Default Recommendations on potential engine swap...want YOUR opinions..

Ok So i recently got a 98 coupe in very good condition, has suspension done, 99-00 front end conversion. car looks great, it came with a b16motor and gsr tranny. Im not really interrested in building the b16 casue i dont intend on going turbo with it. I want a nice quik all motor setup tho.

Now lets say I have $2K to play with and I will sell the gsr tranny and b16 motor. How much could i get for both of those, whatever it is add to the initial $2K, what would you guys do with that. My goal is to run a high 12/low 13 on all motor setup with a motor that wont turn around F up on me.

Give me some options of what to go with, as well as a price breakdown.

I thought about the b20/vtec or something like that??
what else can I work with to run a mid/high 12 all motor?

dont be an *** bro, it is clearly out of my budget. I was thinking like LS/vtec or b20/vtec or i dunno maybe i could even keep the b16, I want to know what some of you guys think, and keep in mind i plan on staying all-motor..im not really interrested in the k20 to be honest.

Well if you want reliability, sell your stuff and buy a type R motor. You won't be as fast as you want unless you put a bit on money into the engine.

You could do the LS/Vtec or B20/Vtec, but people will tell you the ups and downs, and may be reliable or not.

If you do go LS/vtec, I'd keep the b16 head and sell the block, sell the tranny too and get a b16 tranny. Go get yourself a nice LS/b20 block and swap out the pistons and get ARP rod bolts

Good luck Bru

so would you say that with a LS/vtec setup a 12 sec timeslip is not unreasonable?? obviously with the supporting mods like i/e/h/ecu, what else??

don't be an ***.....whatever

only swap you'll be getting for 2k is a first gen b16 or an ls swap....and that isn't gonna be as fast as you want....so....get your facts straight before you go calling someone an ***....when you infact asked for OPINIONS!!!!!!!

he just said he has 2k to play with PLUS he's going to sell his b16 and gsr tranny. read man. and hes on a budget. so K is kind of a NO ******* WAY.

for lets say around 3500 you could rock a nice b20vtec with a b-16 tranny (thats my tranny of choice). i had a b20 v with type r internals...it was good. very fast. not 12 seconds fast but i never really lost on the street.

i now have an ls v (since i blew the b20) and im pretty happy with it. not nearly as much torque as the b20 v but more reliable. the b20 has thinner walls, so remember that.

yeh i did ask for opinions, correct, but i also gave you a budget I was planning on following, you must have missed that part. theres nothin wrong with an ls, i can use my b16 head with it and that will be a good start in the direction im headed. anyone else have anything to share???

thats the way to go for sure. i recomend using ITR pistons in what ever block you pick up, they're pretty awesome.

i felt like I would end up with the ls/vtec personally because i hear too many things about the b20 and people running into issues.

what if I was to build a 200+ hp b16 tho? something like the omniman dvd.. probably out of my budget or no??

i think a nice gsr motor and b16 tranny will be nice...lots of potential...or u can go the route of boring out the b16 to 2.0l specs and put type r internals

Keep your tranny and get a H22.
1400.00 shipped from HMO
Evo or QSD kit. Depends if you want your hood to close.
1300.00 for evo kit with mounts
Or get it without mounts and use yours although I recommend stiffer mounts.

Good All-motor power, reliable Honda motor. Room for improvement. Even if you get a gsr block unless you crank up compression ratio to 11:1 or higher it is not going to be a 13 second dreamer you are wanting.

H2B is the way to go.

B20s dont blow up just because they have thin cylinder walls.

I dont think honda would put the b20 in a CRV if It would blow because of the walls. Im sure the CRV's are designed handle a higher load, and honda probably would recall the cars if the engines were weak, so B20 FTW! even tho as of today, im going nissan = dohc 2.4 w/160lbs of torque. Im sick of 100hp with I/H/E

Im with Sauceja on this... H2B would be very nice and well within your given range after you sell the b16.

The casting design for the b20 is not good at all, it does cause alot of problems with the cylinder wall, however just becuase the cylinder walls are thinner than most other b series doesnt mean thats why they blow. K-series motors have thinner cylinder walls than b20, and people are getting ridiculous amounts of HP out of stock blocks.

(i understand my goals are rather unattainable given my budget..just wanted to let it be know I am fully aware)

Yes it will, but you need the H2B kit that Sauceja suggested which retails for around 1300. This will allow your H22 to be used in conjunction with the GSR tranny and will allow your axels to sit better(from what i hear). The GSR tranny is a good choice if you are looking for a lil better gas mileage.

Search around in the hybrid forum for more H2B related info.
