Default Gauge Cluster Swap

I recently got my hands on a civic wagon gauge cluster with a tach for my 91 civic hatchback dx. well wen i tried swapping in the new one there was a few things a had tow use from my old one. like the old speedometer and and the cluster side brackets. now there was something that still puzzles me though. on the back of my old dx cluster there was this transparent piece that had a blue plug that i had to disconnect when i took it off. The new cluster i got from that civic wagon doesnt have it though. can anyone tell me what this is for and if i need it?

here's a picture of my old cluster with the part im talking about.
