Just trailered the R from the boogie down Bronx to Dallas, Texas area.... a very long tow! The hills on highway 81 were killer, the snow storm in the mountains of Tenn in April ?!? was nerve racking, the cold in Nashville where I slept was alarming (did I remember to put Antifreeze in the car? yup, thank God) but hotel room nice, winds all day on highway 40 were scary, getting 14MPG while towing was AMAZING (I LOVE my Tacoma!) and finally placing the car in the garage was refreshing!

I know, thread is useless without pics...oh well! 24 hours of driving will do that to you

HAPPY EASTER (remember this holiday is actually more important than Christmas, take time out to thank God!)

Yes, I honestly can't remember snow in April...it was 81 earlier this week, now its in the low 30's. TN is confused

If you pass through Nashville again shoot me a PM if you want to meet up, I'l do what I can hospitality wise.

I've made that drive several times, the hills are a bish! I lived in PA the last 7 years, and all my family is here in SA Texas.

TX > northeast.

Shoulda told me you were coming through TN, you coulda crashed at my place. Yeah, the snow sucked. I went out to my car last night around 4am and it was covered in snow. Rolled it to the front of my hood (courtesy to neighbors) drove a mile to a gas station, let it warm up there for 20 minutes, then drove 55 on I-81 which had a blanket of snow on it with bald Azenis. That was fun.

You drove right by me as well. I am about 1.5 miles from 81 in PA. Sounds like a "fun" drive. I am interested in getting a Tacoma as well, so they do well pulling a car?

Dave that is one hell of of tow! I am sure rest and now making to your home is a releif! Most think towing is great which it is, b/c of ease of things while at a event but towing = more aware when driving and a bit more stressful!

For making that long tow!

My Tacoma does well while towing, because I think for a few reasons:
- V6
- 5 speed (I can shift myself, instead of waiting for it to shift)
- Xtracab (longer wheelbase)
- Bedcap (better aero)
- Added a leaf to the rear (doesn't sag when loaded)
- 14MPG while towing (that is better than some trucks in regular driving)

Remember this is a 1998 Tacoma, so the newer one's should tow even better.

My dads got an '06 Toyota Tacoma 4x2 Pre-runner with the 4.0L, 5-spd auto and TRD package. Its really nice powertrain wise, but personally I am not a fan of the interior. Its a really solid truck, as is the same with all of the tacoma's. Should be able to tow pretty much anything, we use it to tow sand, cement, trees, and bricks. We also live on a pretty steep hill so its nice to have the torque from the 4 litre to assist us, but personally its nice to have the 4.0-liter DOHC EFI V6 with VVT-i 236 hp @ 5200 rpm.

Its okay with gas, gets around 18 city.
