my dad's del sol project
this del sol has been through alot. i got this as a shell in a trade for my old crx. the car had no fenders, missing one head light and both corners, bumper was cut out for intercooler, the trunk lid was red with about 8 holes from spoilers, and the trunk filler peice was red. also the hood is dented.
the perks
its an Si
rust free
12inch wilwoods w/ brand new rotors and one rebuilt caliper
hayame full coilovers
Nippon (slips) w/ brand new falken ziex tires
jdm map lights
what happened after i got it was that i would put a ls vtec in it but money was an issue and i abandoned it after buying an integra. well my dad who recognizes the value of a del sol si, decided he wanted to buy it from me. later on i acquired a built d16a6 longblock and i ended up never using that either, so i sold it to my dad once again. later on i was at a local junkyard and they had a del sol si complete with d16z6 that apeared to have a totaled body. he picked up the whole thing complete with tranny for 350 bucks. the engine had 160k on it so we knew something had to be done about the bottom end. i mentioned to him that the z6 is in sense just an updated version of the a6 so he was on his quest to make a frankenstein motor using the z6 head on the built a6 block. the result of mating the two is around 10:1 compression which is a nice bump up. oh and for the record, the pistons are JE flat tops 9:1 and the rods are crower.
currently the one wilwood caliper is shot, it needs to be rebuilt so the car has only been taken down the road once. the brake pads dont release all the way so it gets REALLy hot and holds the car back abit.
oh yeah, i got a carbon fiber trunk lid for it awhile back. only 150 bucks
and those rims may not be the greatest but they came with my integra so may as well use them since no one will buy them.
and finally, i want to give props to my dad. this was all him. hes almost 50 and he did all the work on this car, installing the engine, painting the valve cover, everything

The only worthwhile part of that car is the brake setup, and since it's broken, that makes it nearly worthless. Why is a Del Sol Si a valuable treasure again? Pretty sure they made a shitload of them.
It's cool that your dad likes tinkering with Hondas, but my dad's Honda would beat the **** out of that thing

looks like it has the potential to be one hell of a fun car with that big of a brake setup....now just get the suspension done and reloop the PS system and it'll be a very fun (although fairly slow) road race car

around here, its rare to ever see a del sol let alone one with little to no rust. i never said the car was fast either
im just happy it runs finally after months of sitting at my house.

It looks great, and props to pops for doing it!
Honestly, if you had the wheels bead blasted down to the aluminum, you could paint or polish em up. Hell, black chrome might look better. In any case, it's lookin good!
